Im thinking of moving form Pixex, £24 quid a month for 8meg down and 45k up
the sobs are advertising on their website a better package for cheaper

gonna replace with Beunlimited, what do u guys reckon?

Generally, as an LLU ISP, people are very happy with them. They can suffer short-term local congestion (exchange level) but they seem pretty on the ball with sorting it out. Their DNS is pants too (lol) but again easy for you to change to an alternative so it's nothing to worry about. They're unrestricted and provide a good deal, not much more to say really. You'll certainly notice the step up from Poopex.

Don't forget your experience is determined as much by your distance to exchange (or rather, your line's distance = attenuation). Suffice to say you'll be much better off than you are now, at a cheaper price. What's not to like? ;) Personally I'm with UK Online. They're dearer, but the service is awesome.

I've been with them for about 4 months now and so far they're garbage. I've spent ages on the phone to tech support trying to figure out why my connection is dog slow compared to my neighbours (he's on Sky) and still nothing. Tonight my net has gone down about 50 times (I'll be lucky if I can post this without it going wrong again)

My next task is to find a better alternative as I can't be doing with this level of unreliability.

i've been with them for about 18 months now. there have been two unplanned outtages...by the time i had troubleshooted my kit to make sure something hadn't gone pop there were already honest and meaninful updates on the telephone system to say what was what and an expected fix time. the problems were fixed several hours before they said they would be. i wanted to shift from a dynamic to a static public address, put a ticket in via the website, had a call back from one of their tech support guys within a couple of hours with the details required for me to reconfigure - and this was on a saturday too. i live in a small village on the outskirts of town, and go all the way back to the exchange in the centre of town which is a fair distance away. i know others who are with the likes of bt and they get less than a meg down, i get four. haven't really got a bad word to say about them, i've even referred a couple of other people over to them, and they are very happy too.

Just spoke to tech support yet again and they've slowed my connection down even more to stabilise it (despite the fact that I'm only just over 1k from the exchange and using a brand new BT line with nothing else plugged into it)

Just done some download tests from http://www.speedtest.bbmax.co.uk/ and despite the above I'm only getting 1.5meg connection (which makes it kinda pointless to be paying for BE Pro 24meg)

switching from VirginThrottlingMedia to Be Online this friday. Hope it goes well hearing these mixed reviews :)

can someone recommend me a network adaptor for bros comp? and if i Cat5 cabled to my computer (about 15m downstairs) would i suffer from any probs?

thanks :)

My experience of Be has been mixed for the most part. Service on the whole is very good. Dealing with their tech support when you do have a problem can be very frustrating as their call centre is based in Eastern Europe and the standard of English of their operatives varies considerably (all are incredibly polite but sometimes very difficult to understand).

I have found that generally the ADSL2+ technology is far more sensitive to line quality issues that standard ADSL Max. I have had dreadful issues with internal wiring, disconnections due to noise on the line (I am 1.1km from exchange) and issues at the exchange. Put it this way, if your line has any issues ADSL2+ will find them for you.

Definitely worth a go, especially seeing as your current ISP seem to be shafting you with your package. There is no 12 month contract so if they don't do it for you just move on to another.

Im with O2, which is essentially the same. My connection speed going from ADSL to ADSL2 is the exact same however my download speeds are much higher. I would recommend them, been excellent with me since the beginning. As I have an O2 mobile I also get the broadband cheaper and their Tech/Cust Support is UK based.

I've been with Be for just over 12 months, really happy with the performance 3k away from the exchange and still almost 5meg connection.

some nice little touches like they gave me a free day on my birthday!

I had a game getting my MAC code from Pipex, as I asked for it to be sent through to my webmail as i never use the ISP webmail.

They still sent it through to the wrong place.

By the time I identified where they had sent the email then the code had expired and they sent the same code again instead of a different one.

I then managed to get a new code, which was also one digit out, but thankfully Zen tried the guess the letter and got me migrated. Once Zen got the code then was real easy, has the letter through and reconnected with the new details and away I went.

Must get my MAC code from Zen now so I can go with Be.

£17.50 a month for 16Mbps and no throttling/restrictions. You can't get much better than that.

Having said that, I've had nothing but trouble with their router. It's a piece of rubbish and I'm planning on replacing it very soon. Don't let that put you off though - I'm still a very satisfied customer.

sound good to,

im just figuring the easiest way to get a hardwire from the router downstairs up to my back bedroom

there is a BT socket upstairs but i think its ****ed, anyone know how to rewire one :) do do i have to get BT to do it. I think its just the facia which is dodgy.

I have had it for over 1 year and it has been great. Any disconnects I had have been resolved with firmware updates to the BeBox. Had quite a few scheduled updates durining the evening but nothing to get worried about. The DNS issue is bit of a pain as you may need to configure all your pc's with alternative secondard servers.

Highly recommend.

# Place your order online
# If your order is accepted, your BT phone line will physically be connecting to our network in your local exchange (this usually takes about 1 - 3 weeks). In the meantime you will have access to an 0845 number for dial-up internet access
# You will be sent our welcome pack, including our Be Box modem and your line will be activated
# Follow our DIY instant broadband instructions in your welcome pack and you will be ready to go

You could be on dial-up for 3 weeks
