Not had a TV licence for a few months now as had changing house mates and people away so we just unplugged the TV, had a few warning letters and so on... anyhow on Sunday after a house meeting we agreed to get a new licence which I filled out online and set up a direct debit. It did warn me that it had not been completed and I was still not covered until the 2 – 3 days had passed allowing for all the paper work to be done. Fair enough still not watching the TV.
Today I’m off work and get a knock that door, I leave it as I’m in bed with man flu, I then hear some loud mouth Scottish broke shouting through my letter box! Asking why I won’t open the door, i know your are in there!!!! ... Now all the curtains are drawn and the lights are off downstairs but still this punk shouted and knocked for 5 minutes! His last words were well I will have to fine you 1000 pounds! I fell asleep after that and don’t think he has been back..
Where do these scum bags get off!

I have had them round twice, not been in though.
Keep getting load of letters through stating the usual, fines ect.

At our way we have since phoned up about revoking our license as any TV we watch can be seen on any of the main channels on demand services. (We students are cost cutting). Still waiting for the man to show up as much like yourself while the TV is working, we're not using it. Had several letters sent to us with one claiming to be a final warning - We did call them up after that one though.

So your licence has run out, and even though the reminder states you should inform them that you do not have any equipment to get a signal you should get in touch with them - and you are wondering why they are coming a knocking?

The reason why they are probably so aggressive, is that as stated, many people don't bother to answer.

On a side note, I think if you have a 3G phone (able to have tv streamed to it) you have to pay (if you have that service off your provider).

Scum bags? Just pay up, everyone else has to. People knock the BBC but the service they provide is fantastic for the price that we pay.

If you use that service then fair enough. Being forced to pay for something you potentially don't want or use is unacceptable. The TV Tax is legalised extortion.

You have a television capable of receiving the signal, therefore you're liable for the licence, whether the TV is plugged in or not. Them's the rules.

you can have a TV, as long as it's not hooked up to an aerial or recieving equipment then you don't have to pay.

And you can also use the BBC iPlayer to watch programmes, as long as they're not 'live' programmes.

Only have to pay if you are decoding the signal i believe. People have TV's and use them for nothing but DVDs/Game Consoles and get away with this.

Power trips though aint it, same as bailiffs thinking they are above the law and try to intimidate people basically. Just ignore if he comes back even if you got a tv license and he comes back just say "yeah im in good bye" wind him up a bit :D

If you own a computer you have to pay as well regardless whether you watch TV on it or not i think

No you dont. Get your facts right.

You should only pay if you recieve LIVE tv broadcasts. Thats it.

to op: guy cant do anything unless he has a warrent. And youve set it up online so ignore him :)

They use scare tactics and confusion to make more money.

They assume you have a TV, ALL letters they send to you are rude and threatening, the drive "detector" vans, and the rules on what requires a TV lecence have at least 3 ambiguities, ambiguities which the adverts take the more profitable side of.

The reality is the vans are empty, and they can't build a worthwhile case unless they have inspected your property.
