Something like that, I believe this will be 'quite' competitively priced. More than an X2 because two GTX260s are more than two 4870s.

Yeah plus in all the games it seems to do better, but would be interesting to see how it affects the x2

The only test I saw the GTX295 do worse in (at least that I can recall), was at 2560x1600 in Crysis Warhead, where it went down to 1.6 or 2fps. NVidia admitted to there being a bug in the drivers which affected that resolution.
As far as all the other tests I have seen, it comes out on top of the 4870X2, but not by a massive amount (apart from Dead Space, which it played at eleventybillion fps).

:p

Think it was in Guru3Ds review, which showed it to be significantly faster in all games, and destroyed the X2 in one or two.

Guru3d in the past year has seriously become the single worst review site on the net, I've not seen a review in the last year that has results that remotely match up to any other site.

Its marginally faster in some games, Deadspace is about the only game it was massively ahead in at most places, but its also a dodgey game, the 4870x2 INCREASED its fps by OVER 100% when you went from no aa/af to 8xaa/af. I think that one game(that really did suck balls) can pretty much be excluded. IN others the 4870x2 certainly beats it in many area's, particularly at super high res situations where it was often large chunks ahead.

In the majority of games you'd be unable to tell which card you had inside based purely on the fps of a game.

Fallout 3, within what 4fps in every situation except the highest settings when the 4870x2 is about 50% faster.

Far Cry 2, with AA, the 295 is around maybe 5% faster depending on the res, on average about that, its not once got a significant lead, without AA the 4870x2 is consistantly around 15% faster. THats dx10, under dx9 its almost identical though I think 4870x2 would be ever so slightly ahead1-2% if that.

Left 4 Dead, the 295 actually has a win, its proably 10% faster across the board, but considering even at the highest res and highest setting both give 70fps or more, and at 1920x1200 max settings the 4870x2 is over 100fps, not exactly a demanding game.

Crysis a fairly significant lead below 1920x1200 on raw horsepower, at and above 1920x1200 its much closer and top settings the 4870x2 is better due to higher minimum framerates being higher in dx10, dx9 its a clear win for Nvidia, though its pretty playable on both cards at 1920x1200 very high, and neither card is playable above that, so its got more power but doesn't actually help you there, on a very pro Nvidia game.

World of war is a clear Nvidia win aswell, but frankly I have to say with my card was never remotely slow in that game, maybe a driver issue.

Its faster at low res in some games, where you won't be using it, at super high res it lacks memory, at 1920x1200 very high quality where its really aimed at it's as often behind as it is ahead, never hugely either way tbh.

not suprising really since the x2 was resleased what 6 months ago? seems a little bit late for nvidia to claim victory over ati since they took so much longer to bring out the dual gpu card.

anyway cnt be bad if they push down the price of the x2 for my build later this year.

I did read the review. :)

CoD WAW, GTX 295 is 6 frames faster, BIA Hells Highway its 14, Warhead its 6 frames slower, Fallout 3 is exactly the same, Dead Space is 69 faster, L4D is 25 faster.

yup, amd are optimising the games that stress the card, rather than giving loads of extra performance in games that already play well over 100fps at the highest setting most use, very few people use 30" screens, so 1920x1200 is would be the highest use resolution for the card, both deadspace and L4D get over 100fps there, and over 70 at silly resolutions, so they are spending their time getting more performance out of things like Crysis.... the barstewards.

For me the 295gtx is fastest, when you don't need it, and doesn't have the raw power or memory when you do need it, making it a big fail, especially as it costs more and will be much harder to cool and wouldn't be remotely surprised if the middle of card air duct isn't loud as hell in gaming.

Loadsa, you missed that with AA enabled in those benchmarks on Guru the 4870x2 gets like a 10-15% lead over the 295gtx in Fallout 3 :p

Lodsa, i wouldn't bother arguing against Drunken, he's been spouting this stuff for weeks and is obviously deadset against the new NV cards and has taken offence at their very existance. It's like he's a duracell bunny, keeps going, and going, and going, and going.... :D

How am I deadset against it, make it £350 its a good card but still replaced soon. the 4870x2 is a pretty awful buy now at £360's and not long till its replaced.

Try to read what i TYPE not what you THINK I typed.

AS shown by the majority of reviews, its got a huge lead, in games where it doesn't need it, 100fps on the 4870x2, 150fps on the 295. Where its heavily gpu loaded they are almost always within 10% of each other either way, Crysis might be faster at lower speeds, but at highest quality you can run with decent framerate, they perform almost identically. WHere is it better providing a playable experience vs an unplayable one exactly, no where, the problem is it gives no tangible gaming improvement, its minimum framerate is often under the 4870x2 when heavily loaded due to memory most likely.

If it was the same price and 3 months ago it would be a great card but still very hard to cool. However this isn't 3 months ago and its not going to be the same price.

What time is the NDA lifted - looking forward to some proper reviews and figures
