If you lost your job - How screwed would you be?

I actually walked away from my job then thought, er, that was a bit stupid... but I had plenty saved up to survive for a while and I don't have a mortgage or kids to support.

In that position now. Got laid off at the end of November and have been scrambling to find something ever since. I don't particularly have any unique skills or experience to make me stand out in the job market either, plus I also have the stain of having walked out on an employer on my work history. Thus to conclude, I'm Royally screwed.

The saving graces I do have in my favour are that I still live at home, and that my monthly outgoings are next to nothing. I do have some debt on the credit card, about £800's worth, but that's interest free until September at least.

Edit: I do have an interview tomorrow though, so here's hoping :D

I would have to move back in with my parents, but they would be supportive but would definately expect me to get another job as soon as possible.

Luckily for me, am a civil servant so my job is very secure :)

I have about enough savings to last a year of being a true jobless bum, but if i lost my job i would take ANYTHING that was temporary, no chance im using my savings for basic rent and food. Although i work in private healthcare and we seem to be hardly affected at all, guess people will always need operations!

*edit or yeah i guess could move back in with my mum :P

I'd be ok I believe. My job is pretty secure at the moment and an announcement has been made to say no redunancies. Howeve I'm leaving soon any ways to a new job once all the ends are knotted.

lost my job- Tesco's night team, only had it 9 months, had heart attack 2 months ago, but seeing i'm on 3 month rolling contracts for 1st year it seems my services are no longer needed as i had a fair amount of recovery time.

1.) Losing my job is almost impossible since I'm knee-deep involved in the preparations for the 2012 Olympics. I will be one of the last ones they will sack before everything grinds to a halt. It just ain't gonna happen.

2.) If I were to lose my job, I can survive about 2 years without earning a penny before I will start getting worried and looking for any job

If all else fails, my missus brings in a decent wage so I can be a house husband :D

Edit: Oh yea, that's only what I have in my bank in pure capital/cash at the moment. If we're talking what my missus have saved up and selling properties. Ten years at least.

I'd be struggling for a while as I have a wedding to pay off which is going to dent my savings quite a bit, but I'm pretty tight so I don't use more than I have to anyway so I could plough on for a good 18 months :p

Been told by my boss, the MD and the chairman that our department are considered safe, however, they're making cutbacks like any other multinational company.

I would'nt survive a week,i spend about £50-60 a day on food while at work,clothes n trainers,my pocket is like a huge siv.

Not screwed at all, in fact it'd probably encourage me to get off my arse and go do something different.

bah :\

My restaurant has posted record profit this year. Having our busiest week ever in the 3rd week of December.

On that basis, i feel my job is safe.

If i lost my job, i would be screwed. I have savings to last me 6 months max, and no house to sell. :(

I'd be OK for 6 months, then i'd loose the house, cars, don't know what i'd do about the kids.

Probably spend my last £500 on a caravan to park on my parents land ;)

I like to think my job is safe, being a teacher. Our school is taking on kids from private schools because of the credit crunch.

Fingers crossed, as I would be screwed. No savings, but no debts. Would struggle to meet the rent and bills every month, would have to find something, anything!

lost my job last march find it extemly diffucult living on £47.95 a week lucky i have a good family who help me out in times of need ie every other week beer tokens for babysitting goes down well , theres no jobs in my area am gonna go back to college in august and probably stay on the unemployment ladder till then unless a worthwhile job oppurtunity pops up which is unlikely as theres no jobs around where i live and the last 4 interviews i had in december were all for crap jobs outbound call centers that would mean spending 2 hours travelling a day can only stick them jobs for so long and end up gettin sacked for not meeting targets by over confident pratts who think theyre amazing by conning grannies into insurance policies they dont want

times are hard w00p w00p 25 in february my dole entitlement goes up £30 a fortnight mite upgrade from value beans to the best yummmy

I lost my job in October made redundant nothing to do with the recession it was planned since March 2008, its been strange as I worked part time then full time then part time over 7 years, getting another job has been a pain nothing that suits my needs in terms of hours and I have gone back to college learning a trade but I live at home and need a job now because my redundancy money has gone either I sell my car or I get a job, only got 7 more payments on it so I could clear £2k and I am £2k in debt, I live at home so its not so bad but part time work is hard to come by at the moment.

I won't lose my job, well certainly not due to the way the economy is at the moment...

If I did though I'd be pretty upset, I wouldn't want to do anything else right now.

I'd probably bimble about in a crappy dead end job until I worked out what I really want to do again.
