do you need monitor?

hi, i don't exactly have a particular preference for resoloution at the moment, so the more the better lol. might put on my 26 inch HD TV though if that helps?

Im running on the following:

E8400
4870 512MB
4Gb Geil Golden Dragon 8500
2x320Gb Sasung F1's
22" HP W2207 (old but I absolutely love this monitor)

Ive managed to play whatever Ive thrown at it so far at high settings.

You want a whole build inc monitor/kb/mouse?
What do you already have? just CPU?

Without the answers I'd suggest the following:

GFX:
Point of View GeForce GTX 280 1024MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI - 199.99+VAT
OR
Asus ATI Radeon HD 4870 512MB GDDR5 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI - 169.99+VAT

RAM:

Cracking PSU high efficiency and damn near silent.

DVD:
Pioneer DVR-216BK 20x DVD±RW SATA Dual Layer ReWriter (Black) - OEM - 16.99+VAT

As for headset I nabbed a medusa 2.1 as I needed something cheap an cheerfull, does what it says on the tin, works fine for games and vent/teamspeak.

Samsung F1 of your chosen capacity

slap that in thr case of yer choosing with whatever storage space you'd need and yer good.
Unfortunatley witht hte selection of cases and current prices there nothing I'd really recommend at the moment.
I know a lot of people recommend the Antec300 as a cheap case, I paid £35 for mine and I dont think it's worth it, the current price on it is a joke tbh.

Hi harryc05, I should have asked if you already had an aftermart CPU cooler but if not then I have included one into the specification. It's the Thermalright TRUE Black 120 CPU Cooler which is one of the best air coolers available paired along with the highly regarded Noctua NF-P12 fan. This should keep your Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 nice and cool and should allow for a very good overclock. :)

I have just redone the specification since the NVIDIA Geforce 280 GTX that was on special offer is now completely sold out. Instead, I have included the NVIDIA Geforce GTX 260 Core 216 which is actually a slightly overkill for the monitor that you currently have but will allow you to run the majority of games at very high settings for some time. For the price, it's a very good card. You also get two free games, Far Cry 2 and Mirrors Edge and a free 2MB flash pen which is a bonus.

The specification is below; it is slightly over budget but should fulfil your needs very nicely. If you have any questions regarding any of the components I have chosen, feel free to ask. :)

A 26" HD TV is only going to have a panel resolution of 1366 x 768, so he won't need 1gb of memory on a graphics card, a 512mb 4850 will manage quite well on this. Everyone is thinking of a 26" monitor, which will have a resolution of 1920 x 1200, where a graphics card with 1gb or memory is better.

Although on your 26" TV you won't really need much more than a 4850, the price of the gtx280 just now, it would be crazy not to go for it. It means if you do upgrade to a bigger monitor, something like a 24", you'll be good to go. A world of warning though, those gtx280's won't last long, selling like nothing else :p

This spec + your Q6600 (overclocked obviously, with help from the tuniq tower) will be a rather nice gaming PC, should play crysis on some decent settings ;)

I haven't shown an optical drive, thought you might have one from your last PC, if not stick this cheap one in
