Lighter GTR to cost £114,000 in Japan

Nissan has finally confirmed details - and issued pictures - of the circuit-orientated GT-R SpecV limited production model that goes on sale in Japan on Feb 2nd. The new model is being targeted specifically at ‘enthusiast drivers who desire race car-level performance in a street-legal vehicle’ the company says, as if we didn’t want this car enough already…

Pictures released in Tokyo today show the SpecV resplendent in its exclusive Ultimate Black Opal paint. Other new exterior features include a rear spoiler, grille and brake cooling ducts fashioned from carbon fibre, and the lightweight forged-alloy wheels that are already available for the GT-R via the NISMO options list.

Inside, the new SpecV loses its rear seats altogether, while the driver and front passenger get special Recaro carbon fibre buckets and a few carbon fibre trim embellishers dotted around the cabin.

Performance enhancements come in the form of improved mid-to-high range torque, re-tuned suspension settings and carbon ceramic brakes. The extra torque is released courtesy of a new high gear boost control device that momentarily increases the twin turbochargers’ boost pressure to provide what Nissan describes as ‘a more powerful feeling of acceleration’, while also allowing the engine to operate at lower speed for improved economy. There is also a titanium-coated exhaust system.

With reduced unsprung wheel weights, tweaked suspension and carbon brakes, we look forward to seeing how the SpecV upgrades affect the GT-R’s already formidable lap times – not to mention the on-road experience. The SpecV will cost nearly 16 million Yen in Japan, which is roughly £114,000 at today’s exchange rate. Ouch!

Isn't this the one with launch control removed to prevent people voiding their warranty?

Or is that just the rumour mill at it again ?

I'm in on the pencil list, but that is just too much considering other cars at this price point. Way, way too much until I hear official UK pricing.

Titanium coated exhaust? What's the point? Is that a mistake?

If not - Why not make it entirely out of titanium? Sounds dubiously more show than go, otherwise!

The exclusivity is probably more important to the prospective buyer.

I understand where you're coming from but when you are talking price tags these big, badge snobbery can come into play.

For £114k you could buy -

2x used Aston Martin DB9's
Audi R8
Bentley CGT
Porsche 997 GT3

And the list goes on....

Now not to knock an excellent car, but I really can't accept the exclusivity argument for what is and shall always be, a Nissan. Maybe this is just me but £114k, they must be laughing.

True, but as well as being pretty rare in terms of numbers, it's also the latest thing on the block and there will always be people willing to be the first to own "xyz".

Agreed. Not enough info right now but Porsche and GM offer full titanium (or did) so just a coating from Nissan (compared to what is on offer aftermarket at the moment) is **** poor.

and heres another site with other info on :)

Clicky

like the paint...

Cheers for that. Link has a GMG with black wheels which, after the recent debacle with new wheels for the Black Edition, is looking tasty. Would not mind the brakes, overboost button/function or the seats either but a rather steep premium for just that and a Nismo package.

To be fair, there may be a lot more info coming, so I'll wait.

The exclusivity is probably more important to the prospective buyer.

At this price, dare I say it, for a Nissan, I'm not so sure. It really has to deliver if it will be twice the car the base GT-R is, outside of Japan.

Given the recent news from Nissan, sales may not be what they hoped anyway.
It won't be twice the car the base model is.
That never happens.
As always, the amount of extra money you pay gets larger while the improvements get smaller.
