Scientology + Big Stars

The problem with Scientology is not the belief system - it's the way it makes money. In the end it all amounts to a pyramid scheme, and I'd hope we all know which way the money goes in those.

Exactly fiction vs science fiction, i see no difference. At least we know the author that wrote the later one and aren't blindly hoping some guy we will never have proof of wrote the other one thousands of years ago.

Simply the age of the bible and the fact you hear about the "normal" religions from day one are the only reasons you become accustomed to hearing the stories/idea's and find them slightly less ridiculous, in reality its the same. Any odd thing you hear once heard enough starts to seem normal if you see what I mean, doesn't mean it is though.

Either way, I would imagine a lot of stupidly rich people have kind of gotten to that point in there lives where, frankly, they can smeg off to an island and never see anyone ever again should they not choose to. Once you're set for life, you're set, some people drive for more success and obviously some people will start to ask the question, what the hell next? Some people will inevitably feel like they'd done what they set out to do, they know how the rest of their lives will go and what they'll do and they start to wonder if theres something after it, or if theres a way to make sure, etc, etc, etc.

Cruise seems frankly nuts these days, and for a long while, its also unsurprising that some stars have issues, mental problems maybe, depression from feeling isolated? Imagine being as rich and famous as him where everyone knows him, you could easily (and maybe rightly) start to believe anyone thats ever nice to you is simply trying to get something from you, hard to have real friends or a real life with privacy. Scientology is for those people a rich club of people all looking for the same thing out of life, looking for the same answers, maybe you'd find someone who feels the same as you, can be friends and aren't looking to get something from you, I'm talking about other people who fall into it rather than those who run the thing.

THe ones that run it like any other nasty people are just looking to take advantage of troubled people who more than likely have problems in their lives or are depressed. Meh, if it gives say Cruise an outlet and makes him happy, what the hell does it matter. in a hundred years when everyone has learned of scientology from a young age it will become more accepted. In 500 years no one will remember/believe the early stories of where it came from and people will accept it as a real religion, just like the others.

Great Arsenal pos...wait :D

Spot on, fact is the internet will always be a thorn in Scientology side. 2000 years ago all they had was a piece of a slate and a chisel like object.

I'm a scientologist and have been for 5 years. It helps me cope with everyday life. All the negative press is made up and you shouldn't believe it.

Money, money money.

At this stage though, as others have said it's no different to any other religion. Who's to say that in a few hundred years' time Scientology won't be regarded as highly as Christianity is today? We laugh at it now, but it may become something much more powerful.

So what should we believe? Serious question btw, but I'm not interested in Scientologist propaganda as that's just as bad as the press.

there was a programme about how people join Scientology and one of the things they have to do is a sort of confession.
this confession is about everything they have done in their life which is bad.
these sessions are recorded and then stored.

so imagine that you have poured out your heart n soul knowing that it has all been documented...and you are very famous.
what if you wanted to pull out of the 'religion'?

the fear of blackmail must be overwhelming.

anyways - don't want anything to do with religion - all a load of ***** imho.

Hi sorry for not replying sooner, my ashtray was misbehaving!

It hasn't cost me anything so far. I had to buy a few books and donate a few quid here and there for some basic courses, but other than that it hasn't cost me a penny.

What should you believe? Well, for one thing you shouldn't believe what you read in the press - it's not true. Scientology is responsible for helping millions of people. It helps at many disasters and has a wonderful anti-drugs program to help people kick those nasty habits.

i love the south park episode about this! funny as!

What was even more messed up was that it made Isaac Hayes leave the show. I think that says it all about Scientology - "brainwashing" doesn't even come close, I think.

It's crazy when you think that L. Ron Hubbard actually WROTE about making the religion as a scam, yet these people still buy into it.

I'd like to ask, though. Do you actually believe the "historical" aspect of the religion - ie. Xenu etc?

Do you also buy into their utter hatred of psychology and medicinal approach to mental health?

errr so how much did those books and the donations come to?

AS saying "it hasn't cost me anything" then rattling of a list of things it cost you is a little contradictory.

Do I believe in what?

What do you mean buy into their hatred of psychiatry? It's an accepted fact that psychs are dangerous predators. That's not really got anything to do with Scientology, though the whole industry should be banned. There are far more effective ways to deal with sickness, such as through the use of natural minerals and TA's.

It hasn't cost me a penny. It was my decision to buy the books and donate money.

You should read dianetics, I'm certain everyone can benefit from it.

It helps if you don't confuse teaching with 'fact'. Unless of course you have a reliable source for your claimed 'fact'.

I'll grant that your comments about psychologists apply in some cases - particularly in the field of criminal psychology.

PS - I wondered how long it'd take for 'dianetics' to turn up. It has cost you money too. If I were to use your argument then the Xbox360 I just bought also didn't cost me a penny. That's clearly nonsense.
