"Energy-guzzling flatscreen plasma televisions will soon be banned as part of the battle against climate change, ministers have told The Independent on Sunday."

"Different makes and models of television vary in their use of power, but a 42in plasma television may use some 822 kilowatt hours a year, compared to 350kWh by an LCD flat screen of the same size. A 32in CRT, the biggest available, would use 322kWh."

I read somewhere that depending on what you watch on plasmas, they can be as energy efficient if not better than equivalent size LCD's

ie darker images

hahaha what rubbish.

Made a fairly boring work day end with laughter :)

O ye :D

Great one government, take away the decent lightbulbs, and possibly tvs to save the ****ing world all on your own. Then do something very hypocritical like BUILD A NEW RUNWAY AT HEATHROW :D

It's only a matter of time before LCD's surpass Plasmas when it comes to picture quality
The latest Sony and Samsungs are getting damn close, esp with black level depth/detail
Plus you don't have to run them in, worry about screen burn etc etc

Personally don't care which is better, and don't have the experience to say, but on topic I think just the fact that they are considering this is disgusting!

This is something that should be down to peoples personal choice - it is up to people to pay their own leccie bills after all!

It makes me want to swear when I read things like this!

This, up until recently plasma has had better black levels, but the Sammy 52" which is LED backlit, has amazing blacks, on par with plasma... LED local lighting should improve things even further...

Also, the LCD is better resolution (1920x1080) means it wins. HAHA! :p :D

Still, people should be able to buy whatever screen they want... plasma, lcd, even a projector!

Plasmas have 1920x1080 res too. I agree LCD is catching up, but I have yet to see any LCD come close to a Pioneers blacks.
