January Transfer Window Thread - rumours and signings here

If there was a spending and wage limit etc, club's will just get round that by offering 'other' things into the deal.

Who seriously thinks he is going to join City ...

Kaka's agent has said the deal wouldn't be about money so considering Milan will be in the champions league next season it would be surprising if he left to join City next season, unlike what Robinho done.

It will be a sad day for football if he does.

Champions league footie is all well and good but, have you watched it this year, its not like its been hugely entertaining, half of the teams involved are far worse than those you'd find in the Italian, Spanish or English league in the first place. THere can be great games, but not often, at the end of the day, Stoke might not be the most breathtaking victory, but is Rosenburg, orthe other turd teams you go in against?

Milan are also not the team they used to be, there are 4 teams behind them who are much closer than the 2 above, they are in no way guarenteed Champs league next year, and they've been pretty attrocious for the past couple years not to mention involved in scandal. THey've got a very old squad that needs really, some heavy investment to get back close to a CL title winning team, frankly City have that spending power, Milan don't.

But yeah, we HAVE to have a wage limit otherwise its a joke, without one Man U , Chelski, City, they'll all be able to compete for the league but right now, though it hasn't happened, Villa are approaching, but really they won't ever be able to afford a Kaka or anything close. THe problem as people always explained was you'd have to get every league to agree, if the PL has a 120k a week limit, and Spain don't agree, they'll give every great player in the world 200k a week and the best players won't ever come to the PL. Need the big 3 leagues at least, to go in together on an agreement.

True, but for someone like Kaka, I think it's more important and illustrious for him to be in the champions league next season rather than to join City just to make extra £.

Me, who seriously thought robinho would go to city.

I find it laughable that you are getting manu fans on phones in etc saying how stupid it all is and how there should be a limit to fee's wages etc.

"they are ruining the game"

No, your going to be getting a dose of your own medicine.

Kaka will be a huge huge lure for other players. Its not like Milan have the financial clout to bring in players of a similar ability to play around him. City have the money to bring in Kaka and then pay the wages of the other stars that will interest.

What they should really do then is spend 10 million a year on wenger.

Manu had the financial muscle in the EPl to bully players away from clubs for years. Chelsea came along and keep blowing it by changing the manager on a whim.

I have my fingers crossed City land Kaka just for the pure entertainment of listening to the bleating about ruining the game from fans of teams that have already been happy to sit and watch their club do the same.

I for one would love to watch Kaka take the ball sublimely past most of the West Brom team, before laying a beautiful through ball on a plate to Darius Vassel, who then skies it miles over.

THe champs league just isn't the be all and end all of football, aswell as the fact again, Milan could EASILY not make it in for next year, one loss would drop them a couple places, another loss drops them another couple of places and they are miles from the top.

But in general the Italian league just isn't that good anymore, the Spanish league is about pure attacking football at the moment so would probably be better for him, while the English league is great attacking , less insane than the Spanish but far better defensively. Its probably the best league in the world at the moment, the fact is, maybe as few as 6 games in the CL and 40 in a duff league, or 40 in arguably the best league and an extra year for Euro footie.

If I was a footballer Champs league wouldn't be my priority, the league will always be a far harder thing to win than a cup where a lucky run or saving all your best players for it and resting and doing badly in the league can scrape you through. Its a bonus competition, the league is where the real competition is week in and week out.

Surely also if the Champs league was the beginning and end of his world, he could just angle for a move out the club previously to one that had champs league footie, but he didn't.

haha, quite, Hughes does have it right though, he's pretty much said, Vassell, Hamann and some other dead weight are all done at the club. Though why he's been playing them lately I don't know, though I suspect to draw offers more than anything else. Vassell has a worse return in goals than, Shola Ameobi, how the hell did he get in the England team and why was the country convinced he was good at one point. "but he runs a lot and works hard", any player being described JUST for that, is doing something completely wrong.

Just to clarify , I don't support an English team :p

There is a differnece between the elite football clubs in the world and the likes of City and Chelsea.

Most of the elite clubs have the financial backing due to how popular they are and how much income they generate and do not need a sugar daddy soley for the financial aspect

It is harsh to compare them to the likes of City and Chelsae with only the help of a sugar daddy to get them on the same level.

Wenger won't go to Man City. He went to Japan because he was sick of the richest clubs always dominating in France. It's also part of the reason he hardly ever spends big at Arsenal. I doubt after all of this he'll want to go to the richest club in the world and chuck loads of money around buying the world's best players. :p

I think Milan will qualify for the champions league and because of this I don't think Kaka will wan't to leave. Now if Milan don't qualify, then perhaps he will consider City depending on who else they will buy in the summer.

I think you are disregarding how important it is for top players to compete in the champions league. He missed out on it this season and I can't see him wanting to miss out on it next season.

But the proof will be in the pudding come the summer.

Wenger hasn't spent it purely because he hasn't had it. Its not some morale issue. If the arsenal board find 15 billion hidden under the table and give wenger free reign you can bet he wouldn't head back off to japan in disgust.

When he has had money he has spent it fast enough.

Why did he leave France for Japan then? Liked the food?

Except you CLEARLY do not know what you are talking about. lots, if not most clubs operate with multi millionaire owners, some billionaire's who plough money into the club to fund transfers, Fulham for one, multiple others aswell, Newcastle, Leed's, Westham, infact, too many to list frankly. What you're talking about is the difference between Westham's owners having 300million and not wanting to spend it all and City's owning group being trillionaire's between them. Different level of money, SAME situation.

Real Madrid, constantly get outside investment for their big name signings, get ridiculous sums from the government to buy players, etc, etc. Milan, and most of the big Italian teams are mostly owned by billionaire corporations that have historically always put money into the teams to buy new players.

THe ruski's, afaik, have teams owned by massive corporations aswell and get outside investment. Infact, most football has been run in such a way.

There are lots of clubs that run simply off the ticket/shirt sales and the odd bit of winnings from cup runs and a little tv money too. Brentford are one that at the moment have almost no money, struggle badly, can't afford to buy players at all. But in the past we had Ron Noades who, bought loads of players and put his own millions into the club.

So it is complete nonsense, MOST of the big teams in the world don't run purely on ticket sales and from income gained through the club. As said, Chelsea simply outspent a club they normally couldn't do and lots of people got pee'd off at that. Now Man City are playing exactly their's, and Man U's game and people don't like it.

Off course, but the elite teams have always had more financial advantage because of their success, not soley based on a sugar daddy to get where they want to be without prior success.

There is a difference.

Nope, I think you're massively overthinking how important it is. AT the end of the day, its STILL a football game, and lots of those games will be against pathetic opposition, wheres the magick in that? Its like international football, people bleat on about how great it is to play for their country, but other than an incredibly rare game, club football is just far superior quality football being played.

The fact is the champs league isn't that many games start to finish, and you're only likely to play maybe 3 or possibly 4 "big" teams in the whole thing, while in any league you'll play the "top 4" 6 times, with plenty of far better quality opposition.

People have weird views of everything, but leagues are the hardest things to win, because of longevity and amount of games you play, the varying nature of form, having to play every week. WOuld you prefer to play in this league, for Villa without CL, or for Galatasaray, with CL ,but no real league competition all year and 6 boring CL games.

Remember also, the Italian clubs and their style of football completely sucks at the moment, they are being easily dominated in the CHamps league, even if Milan get back in, they won't win, not a chance, they don't have a competitive team or style, making the CL argument a little silly tbh.

Yeah, shame on people to think that one of the best footballers who has dignity and sense would jeopardise leaving one of the biggest clubs in the world and potential champions league football next season just to join a team trying to make it in the big time.

Just because Robinho joined people are jumping on the bandwagon that every bloody body wants to join them.

When will it stop ... next they will be after Messi. :o
