-== NVIDIA GeForce GTX 285 Now Available! ==-

The fact they are the fastest single gpu is their only plus point!

35% faster than a single 4870, but 70%+ more expensive
10% slower than a 4850X2 but 15% dearer!

@ this price point Nvidia are having a massive laugh. 4870X2 is around the same price and still much faster. Think I will wait until the 40nm parts are out now.

Ha, so much for my theroy that OC was dumping 280s at those bargin prices because the 285 was going to come in at a steal price

I assume that three of these is faster than two 295s?

That can be there only saving grace surely.

The US forums are saying the same thing. Price needs to drop by $100 (~£60) to make them competitive.

Does anyone remember NVidia dropping the price on the 280's by over $100 within weeks of release? Perhaps this will be the same. After all, they should pass on at least some of the 55nm and pcb cost savings.

I would argue that this is absolutely NOT the GPU to own. If you absolutely must have a single GPU NVidia card, the GTX 260 offers 80-90% of the performance for £200. Alternatively the GTX295 gives a 50% performance boost for £60 more, and the 4870X2 soundly beats the 285 for the same price.

These will fly off the shelves like lead bookends.

Own up who's ordered one?

My feeling is there was a place for the 280 at its (eventually) reduced price point as a single GPU as anything significantly faster was 12months away. Now the GTX300 or ATI 5xxx series are only 5 ish months away it doesn't look worth the gamble

More like 75-80% at stock.
This is an overclockers forum and the difference between a 260 and 285 will only be large if you have a system powerful enough to cause GPU limitations:D. For most people they will be very close - too close to justify the massive price differential.

most people buying those priced cards here do have OC'd CPU's, quad or dual and large screens running 1920x1080 or 2560x1200 and are GPU limited.

I still cant get my head around that price considering the 295. If the 295 was way out at like £550+ then £330 for the 285 would be somewhat justified. But consdering there is (on this site atleast) less than £100 between them, I cant believe that price :\

Not that am sayin it's OC's fault, everywhere seems to be in the same situation, so surely its an nvidia descision?
