The best graphics card ever

My Gainward Ti4600 ultra was my all time fav card it was my first true GPU.
I got it for less than £250 pound few days after release cant remember exact figure but id been with a friend on release day to pick his up and it cost him just over £350 :D, it lasted me for a long time and ate everything I threw at it.

I replaced it with A 9800pro which as to be my second favourite card of all time.IF i remember correctly This was only replaced as the new games required a newwer shader model :( Its still going strong in a friends machine to this day.Think my ti4600 is fine as well apart from the fan stopped spinning. im sure it would still run if I replaced it :D

Next came a 850pe xt wasn't a bad card and got it at a good price.

Then came a 8800GT was fine in most games expect when running at my native res of 1920x1200. Again this is in a friends machine and still running everything at a lower res maxed out :D

Side stepped to a 8800GTX as they was on offer on ocuk. Just wished id brought this Instead of getting the GT amazing card for its age..

S3 Virge - rubbish
3DFX Voodoo 1 - Excellent
nVidia TNT - good
nVidia GF2 MX - not bad
nVidia GF3 Ti 200 - good
nVidia GF4 Ti4200 - superb
ATI 9800 np - What can I say :)
nVidia 6800 GT - good, but I had the 128Mb version
ATI X1800 XT - good
ATI HD2900 Pro - Good card, overclocked well and with newer drivers pretty fast
ATI HD4850 - rock on

my heart lies with 2 cards - the 2 that caused me the least grief and brought the most fun:
STM Kyro 2 - 2K1 3dmark wr for a while then a heated battle then final defeat when everyone else get ath 64's
X1800XT (watercooled) - first card in a long time ive had that never ever ever misbehaved. went in. worked. Still works.

my pet hates:
Riva tnt - fantastic card... when it worked.. but mine died about 5 times in as many months (viper v550 <3)
gf2 mx400 - so many friends had these and couldnt understand the low performance
X1800XT (aircooled) - the drone, oh god the drone of the fan... dugga dugga dugga dugga

This 1:

X1900 XT 512mb was my favourite. Was literally 4x the performance of my previous 9800 Pro and for over two years provided consistently good performance and excellent SQ with absolutely no hiccups. Cost me about £270 which was the most I've ever spent on graphics card, but was worth every penny imho.

I've always been quite cautious when buying graphics cards as it's easy to get stung, getting poor value for money. I went from:

Some PCI grfx with 1mb memory, don't even know what it was!
Geforce 256 32mb DDR -
Now that was an upgrade!
Geforce 4 Ti4200 MSI 64mb -
Again another very noticeable upgrade! The MSI was regarded as best 'clocker, hitting Ti4600 speeds.
Hercules 9800pro 128mb -
Resisted temptation for the 9700 but after all rave reviews took the plubge. Again regarded as a great clocker, mine easily hit 9800XT speeds after fitting Arctic Freezer cooler. Only upgraded it last month! Fantastic card...
HIS IceQ 4850 512mb -
Yet another huge upgrade and jump in performance. Haven't tried overclocking yet but if one of these will I'd bet on this model.

9700pro closely followed by the 8800GTX.

9700pro was a beast of a card. i remember buying one of those to replace my Ti4200....and was blown away by the image quality and smoothness. Snce then..the 8800GTX stands out as being the best buy for me.

Best card for me was my old Leadtek GF4 Ti4400(custom Leadtek fan)

I spent many hours running 3Dmark 2K1 trying to get my best results.
I then went onto an FX5900 which was a waste of time.
Then I got a 6800GT for £270(good deal at the time)
Then after I was forced to upgrade to PCI-E after my 2nd MSI Neo2 went fubar I went for a 7900GT then a few months later I went SLI. This was the best set-up for me as the volt mods were easy to do and the gains from doing it we astounding lol. overclocking the core from 450Mhz to 700Mhz was a good feeling.
Then I came into some money and bought an 8800 Ultra and a few months later I bought another(more money than sense at the time) I then broke on of the Ultras by changing the heatsink, RMA'd it and got most of my money back.

So i'm down to a single 8800 Ultra waiting on either the GTX300 series or a £250 GTX285.

SO all in i've had

SIS 6326 pci
Voodoo 2
GF 256
GF3 original
GF4 Ti4400
GF FX5900
GF 6800GT
GF 79000GT SLI
GF 8800 Ultra SLI
