January Transfer Window Thread - rumours and signings here

The trouble he'll have is that unless he come out guns blazing, scoring a hattrick every game and winning Man City some trophies, he'll be slated by the press and fans.

The thing that worries me is that it's another nail in the coffin of lower league clubs.

It's surely going to have a knock on effect across the board in the transfer market, making it harder for smaller clubs everywhere. But no one seems to care about this.....

It also is another step towards a European super league. :(
You really think so?

I don't see how it does any of that. It's just one super-rich club buying a player from another. The last few years of Man Utd and Chelsea buying guys at £30m a pop hasn't really done anything to smaller clubs, has it?

In a strange way, perhaps he should be. If it turns out that he is willing to go for that sort of money, and receive those sort of wages, then he should get slated for not performing magic!

If, say, a financial company headhunts a star worker & pays them stupid money, they are expected to show their worth. Why not the same in football?

I'm not so sure - there are a lot more smaller clubs in serious financial difficulties now than ever before (even before the current financial crisis). Who's to say that the ever inflating transfer market isn't, even in some small way responsible?

Apparently arabianbusiness.com are reporting that Kaka has signed for Man City. Or at least friends of the owner have said it!

Just noticed your sig Jonny. Terry has talent - heading the ball & punching two players at the same time!!:D

:D.

Sky sports have got a hold of the story now.

16.18 Reports in Dubai claim Manchester City's owner Sheikh Mansour has told friends that Kaka has agreed to join the club from AC Milan in a world-record transfer deal.

I don't understand why they're going to pay such astronomical wages. How do they expect to attract other players without offering them the same wages?

A massive initial fee, fine. Massive wages and other players will want the same to be attracted to the club.

its a dead end for him for the length of his contract as well

next season is already written off as far as europe is concerned so theres a whole wasted season

and if things dont go as planned, nobody will be able to afford to match his current deal if he wants to get away

and assuming thing sdont go as planned next seaon and they are not top of the league after 10 games they will sack Hughes and the whole merry go round starts again

why buy a luxury player when your defense is broken in the first place? Kaka will be so far ahead of the rest of his team its not going to work..robihno hasnt hauled them up the league and I dont see how kaka will solve them shipping simple goals at the back

Kaka, plays a 1 2 with robinho and slides the ball into the path of... VASSELL!

Still time for them to splash 100m on David Villa or someone though
