£500 av amp

hi wolvers, it drives my speakers fine but what i'm worried about is that i like my music quite loud and so far it seems like im going to have to run the amp and have it at 1/2 -3/4 volume to listen to cd's and about 3/4 + to listen to mtv etc

on my sony i would only have to put it to 1/3 for cd's and 1/2 for mtv etc, i cant see it lasting for too long if i have to run it at such high output to get the same volume tha ti had before. it's really annoyed me tbh as the extra power this seemed to have on paper helped sway me more towards the pioneer.

in the short time i have had to play with it i would say its far better than my sony for music, lots more bass and a much cleaner sound but i think it has lots more to come as i have never used a callibration setup thingy (mcacc) and atm i am confused as hell about it lol.

still need to get another hdmi cable to test hd audio but i tried a bit of saving private ryan last night and although at low volume sounded very crisp and detailed. need to do more testing today but the kids are running around and its proving to be a bit difficult :D

Well that would be the most important thing to me.

What's confusing you, maybe I can help? I have a little experience with Pioneer's MCACC.

Maybe start by sending the kids down the park!! :p

it arrived yesterday but i was a bit busy, now i have a little problem.

the speakers i was going to use as the surround backs to make up the 7.1 are kef 60s, they are rated at 4ohms. the amp only does 6-12ohms. should i just leave them off till i get new speakers or will they be ok? the other speakers are rated at 6ohms.

Should be OK as long as you don't thrash the setup.

well i have only done one run with the auto setup and wasn't quite happy with the results but thats due to me never hearing a proper setup system with a flat frequency response, it sounded like it did on my sony when i set all speakers to small and my sub on. lots of high end and low end but nothing in between.

as it is now the bass is clear and the highs are clear but a little too loud that it sort of drowns out the bass, the mid range is a little weak aswell and i just need to sort that out and it will be perfect.

like i said a few posts up, i like it faily loud for music so you could say this sytem will be thrashed but not to the extent that it will sound rubbish. nothing worse than loud music that distorts and sounds like a cheap car stereo.

Your music output should not affect your 7.1 setup because my guess is that as far as the system will go is 5.1 with music. As for the 4 Ohm impedance on the rear surrounds I would look for some Yamaha rear shelf speakers in place of them. Yamaha offer a good small range speakers. Most speakers now for home entertainment purposes are 6 Ohms.
The problem is that the Amplifiers drive unit could burn out if the power draw becomes too much on these channels. I don't think it is a problem that they will work with the Amp but how long the Amp will last with them connected at high drive output.
