lost odyssey amazing

It's a shame that the public seem to be screaming out for a top JRPG yet seem to ignore this, something so many people I know love!

Perhaps being an exclusive 360 title is the worst thing that could have happened to it.

I recently tried The Last Remnant, and was put off by the loading screens every 30 seconds, the music, and a number of other things. I think I could have put up with the awful framerates had here been something I liked about it.

even installed to the HDD?

will be playing LO over xmas :)

I wish they'd FMV'd them, That would have been awesome

I wished that they had FMV'd them too or at least in game with full voice overs but I dare to think how many discs that would be. Would give the developers a good reason to suggest Microsoft take up Blu-Ray...lol

personally i think every JRPG this gen has been poor or just standard affair material.

Anyone whos played through this game and wanting more I can't rate Enchanted Arms highly enough, for me at least it even has the edge on LO! High praise indeed!

I really enjoyed LO i only got to the start of disc4 though as i rented it whilst i was quite ill. The dream/memory sequences were always engrossing. I sat hunched over staring at the screen reading each one. This thread has remineded me to go and borrow the last disc off a friend. I did get a bit annoyed at some of the skill leveling processes though, linking is just annoying but does add some depth to characters being able to do all sorts of abilities they can normally do. Ie all my magic characters being able to all three kinds of magic helps a lot along with front liners able to perform some spells to help too. good game in all. I miss it.

I made the mistake of saving it in the Temple of Enlightenment and leaving it for 3 months. Now I've returned to it, I've no idea how to get back out :o
I'll manage it one day after lots of patience.

Otherwise, good game :D But probably not one of the best RPGs I've played.

Well, the game doesn't irritate me like the other JRPG's I have tried, so thats one positive. I have to say, it is beautiful and I love the world where all this is taking place. The cutscenes are simply awesome.

But......... I just don't get this turn based stuff. Perhaps I could get used to it, but I just don't think it's fun.

Played about 45 mins just to get an idea, but don't know whether to carry on with it or not.

I think this is true. I've played Enchanted Arms, Lost Odyssey, Eternal Sonata, Blue Dragon and while I've enjoyed them all, none of them have been what I'd call classics. Not played Infinite Undiscovery or Last Remnant but I hear they ain't too good. Beautiful graphics but very little in the way of innovation or depth.

Then I thought...maybe that is just the nature of the JRPG genre. Of all the countless games released since the SNES days, how many have been truly outstanding? Chrono Trigger, a couple of Final Fantasies, and a couple of oddities like Earthbound and Vagrant Story. It just seems to be a genre that doesn't really progress much other than in the looks department...IMO Final Fantasy 12 was the only JRPG of recent years that has tried to break the mould, but it hasn't had much impact judging by the current gen games unfortunately.

Well the Turn-based gameplay system has been there since the first JRPG's, Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy and Phantasy Star, the big three as I like to call them back when they first came out in the 1980's.

Its the whole Chess-like and statistics thinking strategy that is probably appealing, not to mention other cultural differences on why its popular with the Japanese.

Its no different to why Westerners enjoy games shooting other people with guns and more guns, although that would probably attribute mostly to Americans with their gung-ho cowboy Rambo attitudes and or their military, whether its real life or entertainment medium like their Hollywood movies.

Hopefully it's good, just bought this and Eternal Sonata (£4.50 each :)). I never really played many (J)RPGs but I've been stuck in bed ill for the last week and completed Blue Dragon which I had owned for over a year and was still sealed. Got me wanting more!

Kind of lost the will to play it around disc 3.

i seem to recall getting annoyed due to the levelling system, the area you are currently supposed to be in to advance the story gives wild XP but if you backtrack you get about 10xp per kill making it almost impossible to really level up by increased exploration.

Maybe there was something I missed.

this is rather spiffing indeed!

Graphics and music are seriously immense :D no tearing no graphics pop-in, no delayed loading of textures etc (im coming to this just after Mass Effect) im only on disc 1 as well boss fights are a little harder than usual. (using correct element against a foe is pretty much mandatory)

Not entirely sure re: game balance regarding Elements of attacks/enemies damaging more or less corresponding to each element.(could possibly become a wee bit boring/repetitive) Also magic atm is about x50 times more powerful than physical attacks. Quite like the skill linking system though :)

Odd, I thought the tearing was horrendous:confused:
