Now what film to play on the grand opening?:D

Starwars? Shame no HD release:(

The Film needs to push the hardware allowing for the wow factor...

Thoughts?

It has to be an action/war film in glorious hd, where y9ou know surround sound is awesome.

what's the hd version of full metal jacket like.

Nothing better than hearing gun shots track acrross the room, or explosions surrounding you.

Well for a start it has to be a blu-ray movie. One of the best I have found for picture quality is probably Cars.
Transformers is a great one for big epic movie with big sounds etc :)
Stick with something recently released to really benefit.

Dark Knight just for the imax scenes. Opening scene of Saving Private Ryan for surround lovelyness, or the final shoot out in 3:10 to yuma is pretty intense.

Saving Private Ryan....

I need to be in the right mood to watch it.

The opening sequence depresses me :(

Personally I'd go for any of the original Star Wars films. ;)

As far as testing your hardware for the wow factor...I thought that Shooter was a very good transfer and Master and Commander is a must for those cannons alone.

I'm going to be a bit different, how about the final fantasy (animated) films (advent children and spirits within), appleseed (2004 onwards - ex machina probably better option) or vexille, both are cg anime films with very high quality soundtracks and are both quite moody in places so would test the contrast etc quite nicely in my opinion.
Also having watched ice age on tv today/yesterday I would say maybe that too - bright vibrant colours etc.

As to other options (just going to randomly list some)
serenity
transformers could be a good one
bbc hd stuff - theres plenty of options by the looks of it (the trailers on apple for example)
iron man - well dark knight has been suggested :)
space odessey etc has also been made into a blu-ray version too.

dont go for dark knight as an opener, because nothing else will wow you quite as much. as a demo disc there really is nothing better.

opening sequence of The Dark Knight, along with the opening sequence of transformers are just WOW, especially transformers as the base gets blown to bits..either of these two and you cant go wrong.

Black Hawk Down would be awesome for the surround sound, didnt win the oscar that year for nothing.

blade runner and/or casino royale

PS black hawk down and full metal jacket are great films ofc, but really don't benefit from HD as much due to how they were filmed

I'd go for The Dark Knight - the quality in picture and sound is fantastic and will really show off your new hardware :)

Das Boot for surround.

Apollo 13. I was once in a demo room with about 60k of gear and the launch, which I'd seen a couple of times before was an emotional experience through this setup
