Hey, I have sharkoon silent eagle 1000's and was looking at an article tonight about their performance difference under 12 v and 7 v settings, just wondering how I know if mine are running at 12 or 7 v in the first place :/ They feel like they're pushing out a decent amount of air, but I just wanted to be sure! Thanks

(if they've been modded!)

OK cheers for your input guys, seems like a few contradictions there. Just to clarify, that last one, the 12 and 5 v setups look rather similar, guessing the only way to tell which is which is by which way up the connector is and compare whether it's on the right or left side? also, when you say, if they've been modded, does that mean they'll come at 12v settings as standard?

Basically, what I'm saying is, if I take the fan out of the box and plug it into the molex connector, will it be running at 12v? That seems to be the general consensus from you guys =D Thanks for your help on this at such a late hour lads

Actually, I've just seen what the second post meant with regards to the wire colours! I understand perfectly now, so yellow and black is 12v? just to confirm that, cheers again guys

The sharkoon silent eagles are very good fans, i have 5 of the 2000 rpm versions in my rig, all run of a fan controller, normally run at 1000 rpm for daily use (virtually silent) only ramp them up for benchmark runs.

Mate I swapped a Sharkoon 2000 out of my system yesterday swapping it out for a Noctua.... even at 5v there's no way you can call this fan virtually silent?

It's a pure performance fan that shifts bucket loads of air, silent it certainly is not. You must be deaf lol :p

Yes i suffer from hearing loss due to a lot of clay pigeon shooting, but all my 5 sharkoon silent eagle 2000 fans are connected to a cheapo akasa junior fan controller, theyre run at 1000 rpm for daily use and i can barely hear them, my 2 74gb raptor hdd's in raid0 are louder. My idea was buy the 2000 rpm versions and tone them down when u dont need the speed, particularly helps when running a q6600 at 3.8ghz.:)

Hold on, Chong are you saying the Noctua or the Sharkoon is loud? :/ I'm confused!
The the noctua aint to bad noise wise, but id never use one as a cpu cooling fan (not enough oomph) there are 2 different versions of the sharkoon silent eagles, the 1000 rpm models and the 2000 rpm versions, i use 5 of the 2000 models in my rig but theyre run of a fan controller which keeps them at a nice quiet 900rpm, until i need the extra oomph i just turn up the fan controller dials.

Yeah sorry, meant check where the red+black wires on the FAN are connected (the yellow on the fan lead is the rpm sense wire - if it's a 3-pin fan). The wires from the PSU going into the Molex plug are as above (Blacks=ground, Red=5V, Yellow=12V).

Sorry, i was super tired. My post was meant that if you'd bought the fans second hand or similar, and they'd previously been 7v modded then they might not have the usual corresponding colours, such as in the pictures. If that was the case, then you can tell by the way the wires are laid.
