It was on FX on Sunday night, it was written/produced by the guys behind The Wire. I missed it as well but with any luck it will be like everything else on FX and be repeated at least twice in the week.
 
The thing with Band of Brothers, which if I am honest, made the whole series for me was how it set the characters in perspective throughout the whole campaign, the men who went through recruit training together, the heartache etc.

I have been looking forward to this for ages, just hope it is as good as I hope and doesn't skip things to make way for really really long battle scenes :)

I really liked BoB so this will definately be on my watch list.

I assume there is no chance of the people it focuses on being anything but Americans though?
 
Well it's easy, start at 1 and go through it.

If you like WW2 things then this will be the best one I have seen.

Generally US troops I'm afraid - I guess that's where the money comes from to make these epic mini series. I've often dreamt about a British or Commonwealth mini series depicting the raids like Pegasus Bridge and such like. That would be awesome to see, but I doubt it would ever happen.

Why does it need to stand toe to toe with BoB though? At the end of the day they are depicting two completely different theatres of war. With a production crew like that behind this series I'm sure it will be very impressive. Have you seen the suggested episodes? They are starting out with a boot-camp theme, much as they did in BoB, which follows the same group of guys through the different campaigns. I think the only difference (imo) is we lack the big names to empathise with.

To some of us the BOB story line was the stuff of legends long before HBO got hold of it, the big name actors have nothing to do with it the characters, there incredible bravery and there lifelong bond is what makes the story. If a Hollywood script writer had written it from scratch the producers would have laughed it off as unbelievable.
 
Looks awesome, its weird, I just watched BoB again on blu ray and I thought it would be awesome if the team came back and did something similar. New nothing about this!!

Any idea on the date of release?
 
Amazed no one knew about this! Its been in production for months and think has just entered post. Has an estimated budget of $250,000,000!
I don't think the story will match up to BoB but a good WW2 drama is always going to be a good watch.
