January Transfer Window Thread - rumours and signings here

Id have no problem if Given left us, no one can ever question his loyalty to the club and his performances mainly keeping us in games...

It would be a shame for such a player to not win anything

I'm honestly surprised it's taken Cuddicini so long to move on. He'd be first choice at so many other teams in the world, never mind just the Prem, and yet he's been happy making about five starts a season for the last four years.

I guess he was happy to sit on the bench and take his money. Before Cech joined Chelsea i would have said he was the best keeper in the league but in the few games he's played over the last few seasons he's looked far from great.

no chance...

especially since we got defoe

as much as i like defoe i would prefer to have spent that 15mil on keane

Hutton has a bad injury and when he's shaken that off it will take him a while to get any form back. Remember how bad he was at the start of season? In a relegation battle we haven't got the luxury of having him straight in the team. So I'd write him off for pretty much rest of season.

To be honest, I don't expect Hutton to ever play professional football again. From what I've heard, his injuries are very serious. :(

I'd had Defoe over Keane anyday.

I think it's quite clear that in Benitez's team, the best combination is Torres with Gerrard behind him. Two men up front just doesn't work out as well as it looks on paper for Liverpool. Add into the mix, that Rafa has destroyed Keane's confidence in the last few months, it's never going to work out for Keane at Liverpool.

the curse of spurs strikes again :(

also i bet once Cuddicini puts on the shirt he will start making unbelievable blunders and not look half the keeper he was a chelsea

confirming our status as goalkeeper graveyard of the prem..

Keane missing sitter after sitter destroyed his confidence. He doesn't deserve to be in the side.

Gerrard behind Torres was always going to be our first choice pairing, Keane was just going to be another option or cover but unfortunately he's so far shown he can't handle it at a big club and not being first choice.

He still needs time to settle in, there have been quite a number of games where he has little to no service to then be taken off during the 70th-80th minute mark to be replaced by a midfielder. You can tell from his reactions when he sees his number flashing up on the substitution board that he wants to stay on the pitch and try. Taking him off game after game for the last number of months has done little to improve his confidence, nor has the recent exclusion from the squad for the F.A Cup game against Everton. Way to go Rafa, kick a man when he's already down.

“We have a good squad and Keane was not selected. I have not seen him so I don’t know how he has reacted. But every player wants to be involved so I would expect he is not happy."

Couldn't even say it to his face either. I bet Keane is feeling the love from his boss.

£20m for someone to sit on the bench?

LOL why's Keane so special to get preferential treatment? At the start of the season when either Torres or Gerrard were injured and when Masch was at the Olympics, he was given a run in the side and didn't do enough. Now that they're all back then he's got to take whatever chances he's given if he wants to force his way into the side on a regular basis. Like every player in our squad he has to earn his place in our squad and if other players are doing better then they'll get picked ahead of him. I doubt Rafa will go around telling every player that's not in the squad so i don't see why Keane should expect to be told.

If he doesn't like being subbed off then he's got to do something when he's on the pitch. Too often this season he's been totally ineffective. And not £20m for somebody to sit on the bench, £20m for somebody that gave us another option and cover for either Gerrard or Torres.

edit: another reason why he gets subbed off is because of his fitness. He often looks absolutely shattered by the ~70th minute.

Decent transfer window for Spurs, cover all over the pitch.

Id of liked to have seen us go after Given or Harper, though Cudi is a nice surprise.
I believe Spurs tried for both Newcastle GK's

Hmmm. First I've heard about his injury being career threatening... hope it's just rumour.

Keane missed sitters at Spurs ALL the time... only thing was he'd miss a one-on-one, then miss a tap-in then go and score a 25-yard volley!

I certainly wouldnt argue with that .....but wouldnt you say that since he has been playing regularly, as you said around four years, wouldnt you say the EPL has changed considerably, so he could be found wanting even though he hasnt actually got worse (if/when he gets his confidence back)

The Arsenal team that won that season and Ranieri's last Chelsea team (I think Cech arrived same summer as Maureen didnt he?) I dont feel would have been anywhere as successful as they where (and Man Utd and Liverpool would have been even further behind)

Im not doubting that Arsenal would still have gone unbeaten, I just think results would be markedly different

sorry - no real answer, as we can all only guess - just something that struck me was all :)

You have a good point about Keane - but also he scored in successive games relatively recently and then doesnt even get a start in the next match, Rafa isnt helping any (although I admit he hasnt done enough, like Berba for us but at least he is getting the consistant runs in games and suddenly assisting and getting goals regularly at last while still looking lazy)

Didn't i say that he doesn't look that good anymore in the odd games he's played?

and he didn't start vs Newcastle as the game was 2 days after the Bolton game and he had a tight calf. He started the next game though, vs Preston and that was arguably his worst performance.
