I went on Steam and proceeded to purchase The Orange Box and it all goes well except PayPal doesn't pass the information back to the Steam Servers. So here I am £16.99 down waiting for Steam "Support" to deal with my ticket,

So instead of playing Portal like I wanted to, I am messing about waiting for a response after wasting another 15 minutes entering details about my account, PayPal et al into a support ticket.

Oh and no phone number neither. Gits.

No wonder people pirate games (I was tempted but £16.99 is a bargain)

Thanks for listening, not a lot you can do but I need to rant and the wife looked at me as if to say WTF?

Cheers

Paypal are an utter waste of time and space. I don't think much better of Steam either.

Was there no way you could pay by debit or credit card?

Never had a problem with PayPal (they just got me £60 back from a seller who never shipped my item), had loads of problems with Steam in the past though, been trying to reactivate my old account for days and I'm still no further forward, i tried to make a new one and i just get an error message asking me to try and register again later, my solution is FK_em and get your games else where if possible (although this isn't always an option),

I fail to see how this is a justification for pirating games?

I've bought many games through Steam using Paypal and never had a problem. You had a technical issue that caused the payment to go through and not get the game, stuff like that happens.

I've had even worse. Had a steam account for several years, bought several games. Randomly, paypal presumed that my Left4Dead purchase was someone hax0ring my account. Paypal issues a chargeback without informing me. Steam disables my account. I complain at the wtfness of it all...Paypal make lame apology, Steam support refuses to reinstate my account.

Needless to say, I then issued refund requests for all previous Steam transactions...and used the cash to buy the Valve Complete Pack on a new Steam account. Also rebought BioShock for £3.50 whilst on the weekend only offer/etc.

Net result - the refund money more than covered the costs of rebuying all the games.

I guess I should be thankful to Steam and Paypal... :S

Using PayPal on Steam is pointless now since Steam's own checkout works well and accepts all major/minor cards through it.

True now with European pricing, but used paypal before as there wasn't a charge for currency conversion unlike on my card.

Paypal has been great.
Been Importing stuff from the USA from places that would not accept UK cards & not having to give your bank/card details to every place you shop is much safer.

There wasn't a Maestro option (I think!) or I'd have used that.

Hypothetically speaking, had I have downloaded Portal from a Torrent site for example it would have worked straight away and I would not have had to worry about re-installing should my computer fail.

However, at the price even with the silly technical hitch pirating the games wouldn't be worth it.

I've ordered loads of Steam stuff through PayPal and never had a problem.

Funny how it's always someone elses fault isn't it...

Well it was either PayPal, Steams or a link somewhere betweens fault as I certainly didn't interrupt the connection between to two nor did anything happen at my end to cause said hiccup.

I don't quite get what you're getting at. with this line:

Funny how it's always someone elses fault isn't it...

I've purchased loads of stuff from iTunes and never had a problem yet by brother has had a massive problem with iTunes. What does your experience have to do with mine?

i did the eve-online trial through steam decided to take steam on on the 8.99 or whatever offer for the first month because it was around 50% cheaper than turning a trial > full on the proper eve site.

so i buy it and nothing happens, steam doesnt even tell me what im suposed to do now ive bought the first month

i wonder whos bright idea that was after fumbling about i stumbled across what i was meant to do, right click the games name and select my account which brings you to a page on the eve website that says make account or login.

still doesnt tell you whats happening

i login and it gives me my 30 days.

how retarded is it that steam doesnt even give you a pop up window or anything telling you what to do? it wouldnt suprise me if they get tons of petitions for things they could easily explain

select mastercard when using your maestro

did it a few weeks ago buying footy manager on there :)

I thought Mastercard (credit card) was different from Switch/Maestro (debit card)??

Correct me if I'm wrong, i guess its all good if it works though :)
