Running a summer plaything cheap SL for virtually nothing

Yeah there was an SL67 iirc :) Thinking it would be fairl;y good for le mans and road trips in the sun to southern france/spain etc too.

I'd have one, it looks great - top down in summer would be brilliant, however, if I had £6k to throw at a second car there are several other options I'd consider that would probably be more fun too.

For me a summer play thing is parking by the river in Henley, doing a bit of boating and then going for a quick spin around the local roads to a friends house/local pub etc.

SL fits the bill perfectly. :)

I prefer the driving aspect to the posing one, but each to their own :)

Wondering if anyone has any suggestions for actual alternatives, cost to buy doesnt matter whatsoever, its the residuals which do.

I am thinking an R230 still has a long way to fall and thus isnt the same prospect.

Plaything = MX2, S2000 or Caterham, not a soft-top tank.

Had an S2000, not a patch on an SL, not even an old one. But i am talking road trips around europe and wafting through country lanes on a summers day, which is what the SL is virtually unbeatable at.

Yeah, the opinion of the OcUK motors resident pubescent-looking nerd is the only correct one here.

LOL.

Personally I'd rather have something a bit more fun. I have visions of some rapper and his homies cruising in that draped in "bling". I'll appreciate it is a nice car for the cash though.

For the record I have a Westfield as a play car - BUT I'd also love that Merc SL - I could see both being perfect for a "play" but in different ways and depending on what mood I was in.

Westfield: Perfect for a sunny day out DRIVING but not actually going anywhere specific - I'd be paranoid parking up and leaving it.

MERC: Perfect for a relaxing waft up to the lakes with the wife, top down, park up in Windermere, have a hugely over indulgent lunch and waft back the early evening.

Horses for course an' all that.

I also don't understand people saying because it's big it'll be no fun to drive on country lanes - they've obviously never been in a well sorted big car. My Cosworth is a riot on the country lanes and that weighs 1700kg.
