Can anybody tell me if the PC and PS3 versions of this game use the same online servers ?

Ta.

yea, some mates have PS3s and play online, wondering if I get the game for my PC can I join....

Thanks

it is about time that they started making this more common place.

It would be fun and generate a better online community

Never happen as it would drive business away from the consoles, Sony would much prefer that people went out and got their consoles to play online with their friends. It only makes sense.

I can't really see how it would hurt sales. People buy consoles because they are easy to use, just turn on, put game in and play. I don't know anyone that purchased a console just because they wanted to play an online game with a mate, however I know lots of people with a PC that also own a PS3 or 360.

I am not really up to speed with it but is it not possible for the 360 to play against PC gamers with certain games? I am sure I read it was with certain games.

Now to me, that makes owning a 360 and a PC much more attractive than a PS3. I think Sony will be daft not to start incorporating this into future releases.

Yeah they do it with the 360 but then they have links with MS. Where as Sony are rivals. Maybe they will do a trade, Blueray for pc linking lol

If the PC and PS3 have the same game and they can both be played online surely it is just a case of developing the server software to allow the two to communicate?

Devs would also have to think about how to balance the game for different platforms playing together. Different control systems provide different advantages/disadvantages. Which is why some of the games(if not all) that allow xbox and pc users to play together alter the game in such a way to try and even the playing field. If you limit PC to playing with PC, xbox with xbox, devs dont have to spend time balancing them sort of things.

I am not being funny, I am genuinely interested.

Do you know what kind of thing they would need to balance in a standard FPS for instance.

The only ones that pop to mind currently are the control system, although I am aware that the PS3 can use a keyboard/mouse. There is also the graphical side of things such as draw distance etc to make things fair.
