Its stupid and the work should go to the UK its out of order!

Everyone mocks the french but they dont mess about, they riot and cause mayhem when they have problems. Use brits sit back take it on the chin have a little whinge and get on with it (whilst still moaning).

tell that to the guys on the site who will soon lose theyre jobs that they want and need due to circumstances that they themselves cannot control

I'm not referring to those that work. I'm referring to those that don't, and its them who caused the influx of foreign workers and are largely to blame for the situation now. There were plenty of jobs a few years ago for the unemployed - maybe they weren't great or particularly desirable jobs - but they were jobs. But the unemployed [who were fit and capable for this type of work] didn't want it, the dole was a much nicer option. So if the employer sees foreign workers who are a) willing to do the work and b) will maybe accept less then a British worker, of course they will accept.

The government of course is also partly responsible for the ridiculous benefit system in this country.

Cheap foreign labour does not help a country.

The influx cheapens the labour market, and makes people even less inclined to work.

If there were no foreigners at all, then the low level jobs would be paid better and more people would be in work.

If you only get 4pence more than benefits, you are not going to work are you? But if the labour market was not affected by cheap foreign labour, there would be a bigger gap and it would be worth going to work.

Really? Why not? It's like claiming that being able to buy cheap goods (which is ultimately the result of cheap labour) doesn't help me. From where I'm sitting with my money in my pocket and my cheap, yet well built goods around me I can strongly see a benefit.

OK so people get paid less, but if there are people willing to work for that then why not? Is that not what capitalism is all about - the ability to pick and choose a product at a quality and price that suits you. If this makes people less inclined to work then frankly those people mustn't really want to work in the first place - which makes them dole scrounger wannabes. The only problem I see there is the amount given out to people who don't want to work or think they are too good to work for a particular wage - but that is a completely separate issue.

If there were no foreigners at all, then the low level jobs would be paid better and more people would be in work.
There are lots of lower paid jobs - nobody in the UK wants them. Why should businesses have to pay more when they can get something cheaper? Do you buy british goods when they are more expensive and worse quality or only when you're actually getting something extra for your money?

If you only get 4pence more than benefits, you are not going to work are you?
Of course you are, it's called having an ounce of respect for yourself.

Do you have ANY self respect?

Unfortunately I have to lean towards the left here. I understand both sides of the argument but Gordon and predecessors knew the score when we joined the European Union. I feel sorry for British people that genuinely wants to work but can't since they're priced out of the market by cheaper foreign labour. On the other hand, I see British people taking the **** at work with their demands that employing a foreigner is sometimes just....easier. That's how it is at my firm anyway. Add on top of that that I'm one of those weirdos that genuinely love working with foreigners from all walks of life and the world.

I couldn't agree more with you Fini, the Italian firm had to bid just like all of the UK ones and won. Not their fault that the UK firms couldn't match thier pricing.

I'm gobsmacked that the BNP haven't turned up at the strikes they must love it.

So just sit at home, live of the state and be a great keyboard warrior 'fighting' against an issue that is never going to go away?. Or, or you can have some self respect and guts and go out there and fight for those jobs and prove to your employer every day that you deserve that job more than any foreigner.

Things are only going to get worse as more foreign workers come into the UK, willing to work for less and a very low standard of living. How exactly does that benefit the majority of the country? Seriously, please explain. I'd like to know.

I bet they can spell 'foreigners' though...

Wow a gramar nazi. You are SO cool.

I am actually thinking of going to one of these protests, I actually respect the French for getting bums out of seats and getting on with a good protest.

Edit:- oh, just seen the "poll". Whats going on?! I thought if threads were "troll" worthy they were just closed!

Bit harsh I feel !

Good idea, go there, make noise, throw a few rocks around, perhaps slap a black guy/girl since they might be foreign. If you lucky, a local media outfit will be about trying to find stories to fill their pages. After all that is done, go find a job please.
