I don't have any - what's the fastest way to get one? I've got an interview coming up next month and it needs one.

Provisional Licence takes a while to arrive doesn't it?

Driving licence is probably quickest as JIM_BOB7813 suggests unless you want to go to your local passport office (not sure where the closest to you is) and can wait around for the day to do it in an expedited fashion - they certainly used to allow this but they might not any more with the increased restrictions on passports.

you can not get a drivers license even a provisional without ID

* full valid current passport
* identity card issued by a member state of the European Community/European Economic Area (EC/EEA) with the exception of Sweden
* UK identity card for foreign nationals/residence permit or travel documents issued by the Home Office
* UK certificate of naturalisation

you will have to get a passport which you cant get easily because all new applicants have to be interviewed.

if your signing on then im pretty sure at the job centre they have a form they will fill out that confirms your identity to any potential employer.

it sucks these days the whole photo ID thing is greared around the goverment making money

why would he be asking for photo id if he has a passport? it may be a big shock to you but a lot of people dont

indeed, there are many people who do not have one!
I was talking to a woman the other night who shocked me by her never having been to london, but then she told me that she had never been abroad! that really shocked me, she didnt seem the type to not have been abroad, even for a girlie holiday!

Thanks for the advice guys.

I've been abroad loads of times but I was on my dads passport, no use to me now ;)

This is for a university interview, I'm suprised that you need a passport to get a drivers licence, theres nothing I can get in such a short amount of time in that case. I'll have to phone the university.

Can't begin to imagine the huge profit the government make on ID, £50 for a licence that costs nothing to make!

I thought you could just send a photograph away signed by a 'higher authority' or something if you wanted a driving license...

I can't remember sending my passport away anyway, don't remember having one when I was 18 anyway.

more like 160+ once you count the cost of passport+paying a doctor to sign one + drivers license.

it may be a big shock to a lot of people on here who all seem to be profesionals in well paid jobs to discover the majority of the population are plebs and have to resort to paying for a countersignature

probably changed since then because of all the terorists trying to get drivers license so they can bomb checkpoints

you can get a provisional and will take a few days.. you dont need a passport to get one.. just birth certificate and like a household bill or something.

why not phone the uni and ask if they would accept a photo and letter signed by your old headmaster?

Pratical solution here!

Mainly as your first passport now takes a bit longer to apply for (but could be done in a few weeks) and i cant remember how long my provisional took (it was 3 years ago and i still havnt driven)

Because people are free to employ.

You do realise these cards are printed, not manufactured by hand right? Completely automated. So your paying £50 for someone to enter the details on a computer and put it in an envelope, unless people are paid £3k an hour it doesn't add up.

And to do the research/security checks, maintain the database etc etc. It doesn't just start and stop with you hand them details and they fire them into a computer which prints out a card.
