Superbowl **Spoilers**

I dunno... i still remember the dying minutes of the SB34... I also remember having a half pound burger each quarter :p

Good effort, probably 99% of those at the match did and do every day too :D

I'm torn between the two matches. On the one hand, I remember the dying moments, most tense finale EVER! On the other hand, I loved every single minute of the Giants defence making Brady their bitch for most of the match last year :D

Just for fun, the infamous John Carney incident http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=kTGco82JKHo

Deffo staying up to watch this tonight. I think that the Steelers will win by 10 clear points

I honestly have NO idea how American Football works.

I was far too inebriated last time I watched the Superbowl ! Going to watch it tonight ! In fact looking forward to it, lots of munch and a few bottles of coke :D

... Right can someone explain how American Football works ? :P

Pitch 100 Yards long

4 goes at doing 10 yards.

If you don't do 10 yards you either kick to the opposition or it gets turned over to them

Scoring is a bit like rugby. 6 Points for a touch down and a point after for the conversion. Field goal is 3 points.

American Football has something called the line of scrimage (where the ball is played) You make your play and your yardage comes off your total against the 10 yards. If you get more than 10 yards then it goes to 1st and 10.

1st, 2nd,3rd & 4th down is your attempt at doing the 10 yard thing.

If you make your 10 yards in the attempts then it reverts back to 1st and 10 as you march up the field

Quarter Back is like the scrum half or star midfielder as he controls all the play. He can either pass to a running back or do a forward pass to a wide receiver (like a winger)

Penalties can mean one of two things. for example if your the attacking team(offense) and you get a penalty awarded for you, it usually means a gain in yards. If you have committed an infringement and a penalty is awarded against you it is usually a loss of yards. So you could go from 1st and 10 to 1st and five if it's awarded in your favour. Alternatively you could go from 1st and 10 to 1st and 15 if it's awarded against you.

I think that covers the basics :p

Thank you !
Will read this a few times while I watch the game, As its a tiny bit confusing but I think I get the basics.

Nps dude, hope you enjoy it but I think it will be a display of defensive prowess tonight.

The other thing to mention is that a lot of people will say "aint it just a bunch of softies in pads" The similarity with American Football and Rugby is the size of the ball and that's where it ends. The fitness required for American Football is a lot different to Rugby in terms of physique, pace and power.

This I've noticed, I've seen several American Footballers who are clearly overweight, or maybe its just me.

Rugby is probably a lot more physical and requires a greater level of fitness / muscular build.

You might find the contrary. Given that the running back can sometimes weigh more than a standard Rugby Prop and can shift like a centre or a winger and they wear a helmet and padding in excess of 20lb's then It can be said that they are more physically developed. Point is, it's a different sport, the fitness levels are like comparing football players and rugby players.

The guys you are on about are almost certainly the offensive line or defensive line.

There job is to run about 2 yards into one another to either make a hole for the running back or sack the QB depending on if you're the offence or defence.

Because there job is just about power and pushing guys they're all built like brick **** houses and about 300 pounds!

In rugby the scrum guys have to actually play the whole game and run about the field so are built with a combination of power and stamina in mind whereas your linesmen in NFL only play half the game and are mainly about power.

Can't see past Pittsburgh then. I'm so annoyed that I picked Arizona pre-season at 80/1 and didnt stick a penny on it. 21/10 they are to win tonight.

Can't wait for this, the only sport apart from Football where I become one of those

"fairweather" supports who knows bog all about the sport but spouts stats like Danny the Stat
