A day out ratting

Damn it. If only I could've come with you.

I would've brought my crazy cat along. He is simply aching to chase a small animal such as a squirrel or rodent. The mere scent of a small animal would've driven him round the bend.

Watching your dog butcher other animals, awesome, great fun.

This.

Also, I think most of these 'pest controllers' would be up in arms if someone killed their dogs. If you don't want it done to you, don't do it to others.

I agree that pests need to be kept under control, but surely there are more humane and less painful ways of doing it.

If you've every seen a terrier kill you would not think there is a more humane way. It takes a fraction of a second. The humane way according to the armchair critics is normally poision which takes time with the critter feeling ill.

It’s just an excuse for you and your doggies to have some fun using pest control as an excuse for hunting.

What's wrong with hunting?

Ie rabbit or pheasant hunting, the animal has a natural life out doors then one day finds it's face full of shot or pellets. how's that "bad", when a cow/chicken raised in it's own **** then electrocuted and it's scull caved in is fine?

We did this yesterday on my girlfriends Dad's farm. They're a pest and of no use to anyone or thing so best rid of them.

We go out with a 2 year old Jack Russell bitch and a 6 month old Springer Spaniel who I'm having great difficulty with because she doesn't appear interested.

That is wrong as well, one of the reasons why I have been a vegetarian since I was 14.

How on earth would you liken killing good hard working dogs to controlling wild rats?! TBH there's no real better way of doing it, especially in places like this. Poison won't work, because as you can see there's acres and acres of cover crops (seeds) for them to eat.

Poison just gets ignored. You could shoot them, but how are you going to find them and get them out of the ground first? Smoking and shooting would work, but meh. Nowhere near as much fun imho. The rats don't get "torn apart alive", they get scooped up, shaken rapidly (dead) and THEN the dogs start playing tug of war.

You have made your feeling known on the subject no need to keep ratting on :p

Anyway Looks great fun and those dogs are awesome. keep it up cant beat a bit of hunting.

Of course it is... NOt.

some people have just been brain washed into thinking that killing should not be fun or enjoyable. Well I hate to tell you we are hunters and as such we get adrenaline rush and feel good hormones from doing it.

I personally think that life is precious :).

I've spent lots of time in the company of people who hunt and been along for the ride, but I can't see the appeal in killing for no reason. If I were killing for food, then fair enough, but I have tesco and a local butcher for that.

I can see exactly where this thread is going, but I'll stick my opinion in anyway.

I've got no problem with pest control, but this is a blood sport. I personally wouldn't get any kicks out of seeing a rat being torn apart, but if that's what you're into then fair enough.

The question really is: is there a more humane alternative?

I've also got no problem with hunting for eating, in fact I want to try it at some point. But my guess is that I'd probably use a gun for that, and finish the beast off with as little fuss as possible.

Ignore the townies, leave them to their kebab shops and weatherspoons. Would they prefer poision?

Exactly. The alternative method of pest control is poison, and that alternative is very messy. Rats are vermin, Pests.

You go out ratting, you know what you're hunting.

So many mollycoddled individuals in here

Just to keep this forum in line with "family Friendly", could you remove the ones where there ripping them apart?

If you cant say ****, how come your allowed to show pictures like that?

No offence to the op.

Wouldn't want to be your kid if you closet them away from nature like this. pathetic
