1960s Rally Spec Mini Cooper Restoration Project

Thanks to everyone who has helped on this thread, Jonny69, nomad, amongst others. But I'm going to start thread on a dedicated Classic car or Mini forum. That way I won't "bother" so many people, and there won't be so many ********* present.

well I know they are expensive moneypits lol!

I was being fairly conservative at 10k tbh, bodywork is a must in my eyes, or it would be a pile of dust in a year!

When you say 10k is conservative, do you mean it would actually probable cost more? or less?

Conservative means being optimistic - ie, it may end up costing more.

That's what I thought, but it seemed to be said in almost the opposite context. Perhaps it was just wishful thinking! :p

Either way this thread disappoints. I came here seeking a project and pics, all i got was wishful thinking and a thread full of maybes.

Pics if anyone is still interested:

That's rotted badly. Approach with serious caution.

Ok, to be honest it didn't seem as bad as I thought it was at all. Seems like most of the seems have rust on them though, But other than that it seems ok. The engine starts, but just doesn't turn over.

It makes a noise when you turn the key, the sort of repetitive noise, but then doesn't properly start. But then it was sub zero out there, probably wouldn't of started anyway though.

That's the engine turning over. It's just not firing.

I was just going by the look of the seams, they take a bit to rot and are seriously structurally important; they hold the car together.

Sub zero? pah any car will start sub zero. Mini was running for a half hour today as we need to get the last of the fuel out of it before messing with the fuel sender. Started first time without trouble :D
