Which Wax?

it's not overkill at all, sealants are designed to be layered. The beauty of them is each layer adds to the protection and finish, flake pop and reflections are amazing after 4 or 5 layers

You'll always get people with different opinions on whats best but IMO any solid 100% carnauba wax will do the trick. I use Harly Wax and can't fault it but thats not to say its any better or worse than the rest out there.

This is good stuff also. I use this and also Collinite. Sod using 3-4 layers of 'sealant'.

Good thread as I am about to give my car some TLC.

Just wondered what what everyone uses to apply a wax such as Collinite. I have some round foam pads I got with a bottle of Meguiars polish a while back. Would these be ok?

if you're not going to layer the EGP then you might as well not use it at all and just wax on top of the SRP

Ive never bothered and my car is the shiniest Ive come across ;)

so are most cars just after a wash :D how often do you reapply the wax/sealent when you only use 1 coat? my sisters car is STILL protected after over 6 months because i stuck 4layers of EGP on it.

the better the wax/sealent layers the harder it will be for dirt to stick to the car. I put only 1 layer of AG HD wax on my car just before xmas and the last 3 washes 95% of the dirt came off with just snowfoam/pressure wash. Before i did this i needed a hard scrub to get most dirt off. But its already wearing off. It did much better when i had a few layers on during last year (ok ok weather was slightly better.... lol).

I really should stop posting at 3am.

It's all about the preparation really, and layering EGP is when you get the best looks and protection from it.

Collinite's a great all-rounder, especially for winter. I'm a big fan of P21s (or R222 as it's now called) and Victoria Concours in terms of value for money. Yes, you can spend more and get a slightly better finish, but for the casual detailer these waxes will do more than a good enough job.

I cleaned mine yesterday and want to polish/wax today.

Should I give it another quick clean before attacking it with the polish?

If you've driven it anywhere or there's an obvious layer of dust then probably best to clean it first. Have you got any quick-detailer?

Nope. I'll give it a quick clean now, dry it, go for dinner and then come back and wax it.
