January Transfer Window Thread - rumours and signings here

Think my hearts just stopped. If we've bought David Villa I will eat my pinky.

edit: I'm trusting no-one going by the name "Boxhead91" on 606

Great post on The Liverpool Way claiming there are more ameoba on Mars we're more likely to sign than David Villa

The thing which bugs me about the Keane transfer is not that we have sold him back, I can understand the thinking behind it.

What annoys me is the timing of it, if we were going to sell him, I would much rather we had done so earlier in the transfer window so that we had time to buy in another player.

As it is, we are getting rid of Keane with no time left to buy another player, which effectively leaves the team not much different from what it was last year when it was widely touted that we needed to strengthen the team. Selling Keane and buying another player would have been a step sideways, but selling Keane and not buying anyone else is, in my opinion, a step backwards. I just hope to heaven that Torres doesnt get a significant injury.

OMG if villa signing is true....but somehow i doubt it...as long as we get a decent replacement i dont care!

We aren't going to today though, unless a big surprise is lined up, so that's Torres, Kuyt and N'Gog up front until next season. Bye-bye trophies :(

Martins is also about 43 years of age.

Keane fee agreed

Arshavin Fee agreed and personal terms agreed

Source? Im only keeping an eye on BBC sports.

it would be insane, Martins is a much better driving force to pair with a great finisher like Owen up top. Bent is just a Owen type player, Martins is maybe not the perfect support striker, but he's better at getting the ball and powering past people holding it up with strength and the like, Bent nor Owen can do that. Bent as cover wouldn't be bad at all though as Owen is rarely fit for long. Lets face it Jeffers would probably make a good signing as an improvement over Ameobi.

Its ridiculous the hype surrounding Arshavin's signing, I still can't work out where we'll play him. He's not a Cesc replacement but everyone seems to be indicating he'll fill the gap while Fabregas is out, isn't he, in his prefered position, an RVP type player. ARguably RVP has been one of the best and most consistant performers this year in the premiership and insanely good in the support striker role so he's hardly going to be dropped for Arshavin, so where in the sweet jesus are we planning to use him, and will he even start with all our wingers, Fabregas and Eduardo back? Even if he's great, we're not going to be winning anything while Wenger insists Diaby, Song and Denilson are more than good enough for us.

drunkenmaster, I agree with you on this. The hype to sign Arshavin is just annoying me now! Yeh hes a great player as well all know but jesus is he every going to actually sign for anyone!

As for his position, hmm... im thinking maybe hes going to be a more right side attacking player? With the teams current injuries hes going to get a place for now, but like you said with Cesc and co coming back from injury I don't think he has a perminant place... expesh with the youngsters as youve addressed in the team doing a good enough job?

Still i think it would be a good signing for Arsenal, it gives them abit of strength and more squad depth.. still I think Arsenal are way under acheiving!

1558: This just in from BBC Radio 5 Live's Mike Sewell: "Arsenal and Zenit have agreed a fee and I understand personal terms have also been agreed and Andrei Arshavin is having a medical this afternoon. But there is a but, as Zenit want half of his signing-on fee for signing for Arsenal. That is now the sticking point." Hmm. They've got (weather permitting) 62 minutes to sort it out.

1556: Liverpool have confirmed they have "agreed a deal" with Tottenham for the transfer of Robbie Keane back to White Hart Lane.

Both taken from the BBC sports webpage. Nice watching you're doing there :p

Lets just hope those 'emails' have been sent with valenica, but its almost certain keane has gone. Rafa must know that we cant challenge with one striker...if he seriously believes that then who knows, he may be screwing liverpool before he joins madrid in the summer!

I think Arshavin will be a quality signing for us IF he settles in and adapts to the Premiership. He'll probably go straight out to the right to replace Eboue.

With everyone back, he'll offer us good cover and the ability to rotate the squad more often. I can see our best team (without injuries) going like this.

Almunia
Sagna - Gallas - Toure/Djourou - Clichy

Arshavin/Walcott - Fabregas - Song - Nasri

V.Perse - Adebayor

Or if he wants to play 4-5-1 drop one of the strikers and use Arshavin behind the lone striker.

We won't have only 1 striker though. Providing we've not got somebody lined up to replace Keane, then all it would mean is Babel will get more opportunities up front and despite how poor he's been this season, he's been no worse than Keane.
