Who has SKY HD+?

Yet they can afford a standard Sky sub in the first place, an HDTV and a Sky+ HD box?

If you can afford that lot, you can afford an extra tenner a month.

Doesn't make a lot of sense. Its called "saving". I saved up for my HDTV by keeping money aside each month. I already pay £39 a month for Sky+ which it itself is completely ridiculous seeing as Virgin has basically the same channels as Sky but costs less.

You pay once for an HDTV, you have to pay £10 each month for 12 months minimum for HD channels.

Who are you to say i and others can afford the extra £10 a month? We aren't all rich you know...

Apparently this is the price from now on, kinda shows that they won't be dropping the hd £10 sub anytime soon :(

I have a feeling that it'll be absorbed by any rising costs on the regular subscription. So it will gradually come down. Speaking to people in the call centre this weekend and it's been manic. But this is a good thing. More people with HD boxes gives them a reason to put even more HD channels. As it is, most of the ones I watch are covered now.

Yes, you pay several hundred pounds once for your HDTV then you pay a fraction of of that every other month for Sky HD.

All I'm saying is that Sky HD is obviously not aimed at the people who can't afford the extra tenner. There are people out there who are prepared to pay for it, so it's really as simple as taking it or leaving it.

I hardly think forking out an extra £10 a month qualifies as 'rich', but I can understand people cutting costs on things. It's just that if people are serious about cutting costs, they shouldn't be looking at splashing out on an HD service now should they?

I'm not putting up an argument here by the way because quite honestly, I don't really care either way :) If you don't want to pay £10 a month extra then it's not for you and that's fair enough.

Thats fine. But your original post seemed to insinuate that £10 extra a month is nothing, when it really isn't to a lot of people in this current climate. Also you say you pay a fraction every other month? The HD sub is every single month, not every other.

I think Sky should lower the HD addon in comparison of what package you have. For example if you have the full thing, then you are getting more HD channels, so you should pay more. If you have no premium channels, then you should pay less. £120 extra a year is quite a lot considering a lot of the HD channels dont broadcast 100% HD.

Yeah I know it's £10 every month, sorry, I didn't make myself clear there :)

I do agree about different prices for different packages though. At the moment if you have just the basic package with no sports or movies, you still pay £10. - that should probably be more like £5, then a few quid extra bunged on for those people with sports and movies. However they're unlikely to do that because those people who have HD without sports and movies are paying what's effectively extra to go towards funding everything else.

True. Really wish they would implement something like that though. Would make HD much more attractive for me anyway. :)

A tip for everyone, You get the same amount of non premium channels no matter which 'mix' packs you have. Say for instance, if you've got the entertainment mix pack, you'll still get the likes of National Geographic, History, Discovery, etc. in HD. And that'll shave a few quid off the monthly subs. Or threaten to get rid of your premium packs and see what sort of discount you can get.

bah..3 to 6 weeks for mine..curse all these people taking up the offer (apart from me!)

It might not be that long. It all depends on the number of installers in your area. As soon as you get invited to order you should have an installation date within a couple of days of that.

A wild question regarding the LNB on an upgrade, I'm sure I've got a quad LNB right now with + and multiroom so I have 1 free jack, the installer will be arriving in a few days to upgrade me to HD and move my + box upstairs, will the installer just plug into the last port or will he upgrade to the octo LNB in order to leave 4 free ports for future expansion as I would?

He will use the last port then upgrade it again later if you request another box. Swapping them is a 5 min job :)

Think i might have to ring up and haggle this offer aswell, reading their site its only £49 with free installation if you take a multiroom.

But i already have the full package (-movies) sky+ and 2 multirooms.

I think im paying them enough already!

You can attempt to haggle as much as you like - they won't move.
They are making a massive loss on the boxes selling them at £49.
So they use the installation fee and your first years £120 (HD Subs) to claw that money back
They should then start seeing a profit from you in year two.

I'm a bit confused with the offers on the website that include multiroom.

At the moment my current set up is;

1 x normal sky box (non plus) downstairs
1 x normal sky box (non plus) upstairs on multiroom

What I want to achieve is;

1 x Sky + downstairs
1 x Sky+HD upstairs on multiroom

is it the multiroom offer the one I need to choose or just the single offer of £49 for 1 x Sky+HD + £30 installation and then put in another order for a normal sky + box ??

Cheers

i remember when we got sky+ installed when it 1st came out, they sub contracted out the job to another company (i think they do this with all there jobs) and whilst the engineer was in out are living room with his drill etc he managed to wreck my mums new very expensive curtains some how getting oil and greese all over them. to cut a very very long story short it took around 8 months to get only half the money back on them as sky were such a hassle to deal with.
The 2nd part to the story was at the same time we had multi room fitted with another sky+ in another room both of them worked fine but after say 1-2 of use they would give off annoying buzzing noise and very poor picture quality cutting in and out all the time. so again to cut another story short lol we ended up we ended with i think it was 4 callouts with the engineers checking the the boxes and over 20 phone calls but sky refused to back down and give us a new box. In the end we got 2 refub ones which was a joke!! And both of these both had there problems like the last pair! In the end we got brand new boxes but a different make of box and touch wood they have been fine since!
Last problem i promise lol, when we moved house we changed are address etc and got a letter saying they had confirmed it etc and changed the billing address too. Well after 3 months of having sky in the new house we hadnt been sent a bill even tho asking for one countless times over the phone and saying "yes we send one straight away". Come home one day and to find are phone line had been cut off with out warning!! (We had sky Talk too) It took over 3 weeks for the phone to be reconnected!!

My god i hate sky customer service it is so lousy and they have little respect for you on the phone and sometimes cut you off, and being a very long customer of sky since the days when it 1st came out in the 90's its turned into a poor company imo. But lol at the present time we still have sky as we dont have cable round are way.

You will need to order the two boxes and as such the cost will rise significantly, you are best giving them a ring and sorting it over the phone, the advisors are top notch and know what they are doing, I was pleasantly suprised at how good they are, especially as I work in a call centre myself, it was great to be on the other end of the phone with someone who knows their job well. :)

Which number did you ring? I have rang one (can't remember which off the top of my head) and it went through to india who could hardly hear me and I couldn't understand them at all.

With regards to the significant extra cost, then if I could do a self install on the normal sky+, (I'm used to cabling/drilling along walls etc) and its just a case of ringing them up once I've got hold of a sky+ box and registering, then i'll quite happily do that
