sorry guys, another dreamy thread!

Yanto, may I ask when you will be doing your driving test ? Although I myself have ideas that are stupid according to most of the guys on the forum, I have realized that I should first pass my test then decide what to get... Not first plan what I'll do if I pass.

hence the face.

Emoticons from you mean nothing, this is the internet and after your escapades you can't tell when you're being serious or not even with them.

Anyway on the record I would much rather have a Triumph classic than a Fiesta any day but for a first car? No.

You have years and years ahead of you to try out these "ideas" trying to get your "dream" cars straight away never quite works out as it should.

If thats what you want there's no point argueing.

It'll be interesting to see what you actually buy when you pass your test...

Sorry I meant the spitfire is a beter car and costs the same/ess to run than a hatchback.

I haven't looked at the B in enough depth to know tbh.

May I ask why you wouldn't have as a first car? Apart it the breaking down side of it which doesnt bother me.

No idea yet, within the next year

It may cost the same if you do ten miles a week. I've done 1000 miles in my little hatchback this month and spent only £110 on petrol, insurance is only £600 for the year and it hasn't broken down. A spitfire is not a viable alternative to a modern hatchback, stop trying to compare them.

If you haven't looked into the mg then how can you make an informed and balanced decision on which one is better?

the only reason I've had so far is that it wil break down a bit

Ok heres another...

It's RWD - RWD on someone with no real world driving experience at all is a BAD idea. You'll smash it up, then your dream will be shattered.

I do have the funds, and I do have the tinme and motivation. But it's early days, probably won't be getting it for 6 months at least, probably not until next year, so I have plenty of time to do research

Awesome, waste of everyones time then. Close the thread. He'll have changed his mind again by then.

paid 700 for a r reg clio, £1400 a year for insurance, 120 a year for tax, the mot, and get around 35mpg average whilst ragging it. The car has been in possesion of my parents before i had it for a year aswell so in the year and 8 months we have had it, all we have had to do is pay to get the cambelt changed. other than that it hasnt broken down.

on the other hand you have my friend who has a classic mini. It is currently off the road for i think the third or second time this month and has only been on the road for 40% of the time he has had it if not less.

Because I don't want an MG anyway I know too many people with them. There not as good looking imo either. Where I live there is no way I could insure a hatchback for less than £1500 when I'm 18 just passed.

I wont do anywhere near 1k miles a month, I'd be doing well to do that in 6 months.

that argument isnt going to stop me getting on though, i don't care if i smash a saxo or a spitfire if they both cost the same anyway

This is why you shouldn't own a classic.

You harp on about nostalgia and sentimental value and then you make a comment like that. Its no wonder people ard losing their patience with you
