Heard good things about the Turtle beach stuff for the 360, now i see they have one out for the PS3.
From IGN,
Playing video games on a giant HDTV is one of the greatest joys in life, but having a kickass sound system to hear every bullet drop and alien head explode is also key to the ultimate gaming experience. The problem is, gamers tend to be night owls and your neighbors might not appreciate your subwoofer rumbling their walls while you enjoy your 2am "Resistance: Fall of Man" session. Unless you want an eviction notice taped to your door, you're going to need an alternative, and for PlayStation 3 owners, the newest from Ear Force has just flown in to save the day.

We've been personal users of Ear Force gaming headsets for years. As one of the first third party manufacturers to incorporate gaming mics into quality headphones, they've always been one of our go-to choices for silent frag matches. The new Ear Force PX1 edition for the PlayStation 3 combines the popular amplified headset from their X1 model with an Amigo USB sound card to produce home theater quality sound straight into your ear drums while letting Grandma watch her Nick at Nite reruns undisturbed in the other room.

The built-in mic makes online chatting a breeze, and the on-ear headphone experience can really heighten your gaming glee, as you can now hear the most subtle audio nuisances, such as enemies sneaking up from behind you and every creepy sound effect built in to the best horror games the console has to offer. Plus, the included in-line amplifier makes it easy to balance the levels of your game and chat volumes.

PS3 gamers that also enjoy some PC face time will be happy to hear that the X1 can also be used for PC games, as the Amigo USB sound card can convert the X1 (as well as any standard PC headset) into a USB headset for both your PC and laptop.

The UK price is about £63 seems quite expensive but i think they are worth it, not sure if ive seen a stereo headset with voice chat for the PS3 for less.

I can't seem to find anyone who uses these, are they really that good? I need a pair of decent gaming headphones and thought these would be good as they also have the mic should I ever decide that I need one, and at ~£65 they seem like a good deal.

I bet they sound worse than real headphones, like Sennheiser HD555's.

But, they do have a benefit and that is the microphone, having to wear headphones + the Sony headset or so will prove troublesome as unlike a PC using a clip-on microphone behind your monitor isn't an option with consoles.

home theater quality sound

No chance in hell.

You're probably right. Sennheisers are hard to beat, IMO.

You can use a regular bluetooth headset, clip it to your shirt (or place it nearby if it's good enough) and just use it for the mic whilst wearing a set of normal headphones. I know a lot of people do this but the PX1s look like a more convenient solution, and if the sound quality is half decent then £65 sounds like a bit of a bargain.

Can I introduce the SteelSeries Siberia USB Headset? can be had around £60 at usual computerstores or cheaper online.

Basically the PX1 is a usb soundcard to give a line in to the mic and you connect your headphones to your tv or phonocables from PS3 through a 3.5mm.

The SteelSeries Siberia USB, made by those guys who make Icemats (make sure it says USB on the box!) is exactly the same solution. USB soundcard for line in and headphones, which sound fantastic and look really good too (if you care about that stuff). Its seems pretty darn well built too.

THE advantage of the SteelSeries is that the Mic is a clip type, and is mega sensitive, so you can clip it anywhere on you or the headphone cable, I dont like people hearing me eat lol! The mic is on a totally seperate wire which clips all the way along the headphone cable or you can just seperate it if you like like I have done and it has a little velcro attatchment thing so its clipped onto my desk permanently.

Like the PX1's you can buy the xbox 360 thingamajig to make the mic work with the 360.

I sound like i'm trying to sell them myself but I just think they're awesome, and work simply with my xbox ps3 and pc :D :D

You're right, they do look good. Much better than the PX1s. There's no mention of PS3 compatibility, have you had any issues using them with the console?

My main reason for buying them would be the sound quality, the mic's just a bonus, so what's the virtual 7.1 surround sound like? At the moment I'm using a pair of Sennheiser PX100s, which aren't bad for £25, I take it the difference in sound will be noticeable.

Hi mate yep those are the ones however I would remove the link as OcUK sell headphones also.

There's no mention for PS3, however its the USB Soundcard that enables a 3.5mm line in for a microphone onto the PS3, thats all the PX1 uses and you can get them for about £5 on auction sites and will work, theres nothing special about the USB soundcard which comes with the PX1's.

The virtual 7.1 is for when it is plugged into a PC or something which lets you have audio out of the soundcard. I tried it on my pc it sounded pretty good but I've never had proper big headphones before so cant compate. (always earbuds, however, good ones like shure etc). So you wont get virtual 7.1 on your ps3 as you have to plug the headphones into the phono cables out the back or your tv.

The headphones themselves are open can so the sound is really clear and 'airy' in the sense that it sounds like you have big speakers which I like a lot.

Hope that helps

Thank you, that's a big help.

Cheers for letting me know about the link, I'm already on a warning for something silly I posted a couple of weeks ago. Hopefully no one else noticed.
