Why do people think Newcastle are a small club?

I'm not sure how old you are Toon Mad but before Newcastle got into the top league thier attendences used to be pretty average. Your a no bigger club than Sunderland. I'd say United, Liverpool, Everton, Villa, Arsenal, Chelsea, Leeds, Notts Forest are all "bigger" clubs than Newcastle.

Granted you had a few good seasons in the 90's but c'mon you've been fodder for the last 3 seasons and if you get relegated I expect your attendences to drop dramatically.

i dont like to wear mine neither, i hung mine on my bedroom wall, it feels embarrasing wearing a juventus wannabe shirt in public :)

Its okay, at least you don't get the "you look like police lights" jokes.

Bloody blue and white stripes.

i wouldnt be suprised if we got relegated, and i bet we still get over 45,000 fans a week, even in the championship, that i will put money on

Leeds get 30 thousand fans, does that make them better then all the clubs that don't get 30'000 fans ? hahahaa

Well 20 years ago when you were in the second division you didn't, anyway thats besides the point. In my opinion I don't think Newcastle fans are "great" supporters, they too often are quick to boo thier team, which should never be done. The Media have just whipped the image of the "toon army" being some kind of top draw supporters, when they are no different to other clubs.

I disagree - if anything it's the media that puts the negative spin on us. We very rarely boo the team - the management/chairmen/owner yes - the players no. :p

Panzer

would you boo your team when you have a board room promising so much, when in fact all they care about is where they can make the next £?

If the board knew how to relate to the fans then everything would be ok, but its business first with this lot, they are killing whats left of the club, which evidentally isnt much

They amount of money you have spent you should be a big club, cant think of a club ruined more by chairmen over such a long time. You have blown many a chances and money, you have lost what it means to be a football club, you are in limbo. I think you would be happier in the Championship watching a decent team playing decent football.

prehaps Leeds! :p:(

All this guff is spouted endlessly about the Newcastle fans having "passion", but "passion" can just so easily be termed "whining". I mean, for gods sake, sure you're not winning anything, but you've been a Premiership mainstay for so long now, and yet you'd think you were the hardest done-by team in the league. After a turbulent period, you hired a no-nonsense manager who could have steadied the ship, but chucked him out because you weren't willing to sacrifice the good football you stopped playing well a decade before, in order to win games. You brought back an old manager with a questionable temperament, and then were surprised when he got the strop and left. You loathe a chairman who's done nothing but pump money into your club and help it continue, even after you started baying for his blood, and still does even now its apparent no-one else will buy you.

Have a look around the rest of the league. There are clubs getting relegated, going into administration and losing everything. Teams that have never won a trophy, never mind just in the last 50 years. Teams that will never get to play the likes of Everton or Villa, never mind Barcelona or Inter Milan. Hell, Leeds have gone through far worse times in the last five years than you have in the last 20. Yet you're the long-suffering fans? Please.

I've always classed them as a small club. All through the 80's like chelsea and westham they got relegated then came back up again. They had a small spell in the 90's when they had more money to spend but even then no one feared playing them. The defense was so laughable you always fancied your chances.

As someone showed you hardly had any fans going to games in the early 80's.
