someone here who has an i7 please tell me that its worth upgrading my q9550
cos the benchmarks are telling me dont bother
b4 i throw more money away

Is your system too slow now.....no. So why bother upgrading, especially when you're not even convinced yourself it'll be worth it.

Yeah, I agree, the Q9550 is still a great CPU and is perfectly ample for the majority of today's home workstation / gaming tasks. If you did an i7 upgrade, sure you may get superior bench scores, but in real everyday tasks the performance increase wouldn't really warrant the price of the upgrade.

I am still running an over clocked 6300 that is 2.5years old. Still runs everything very well. Don't see the need to get an over-priced i7 system, maybe in a years time when prices have dropped but not yet.

Had a qx9650 @ 4ghz and i still have a q9550.
I went and sold my Qx9650 cause i wanted to get what i could for it. In the end the upgrade did not cost me much more after i sold me Qx9650 and mobo "still using the ram" also just needed to buy the upgrade piece for my true cooler so had to only change CPU + Mobo.

For games their is no point in upgrading from what you have.
If your using it to render or other MT programs then it would be worth it.

At the end of the day if you can get good money for your old gear to fund for a upgrade then ya i think its worth it. If you cant then nope dont go i7 jusy yet.

I'm pondering it myself to be honest. Got a fast Yorkfield system, and i7 isn't really going to be a worthwhile increase in speed, but I want new tech :D

You have to remember this is an enthusiasts forum, so many people will upgrade because they want the new components, not nessecarily need them.

Very true that is why i upgraded :D the performance increase is noticeable for me, i don't think its worth it if you don't intend to run more then one videocard though.

don't bother for now

If I was starting from scratch i would spend the extra 200 to go i7 just for the upgrade path, but not when my system is running fast as it is.

My CPUs have always lasted me 2 graphics generations. Seems to work quite well as a money-saving rule of thumb.
