sorry guys, another dreamy thread!

Sorry for bumping this thread back up the pile, it exploded since I last read it.

Yantorsen has proved to be a complete pleb once again. Clearly why hes suspended again it seems.

God knows how he would think a Triumph Spitfire would be a car that would last him for years, and somehow be cheaper to run than something like a mondeo or an accord, or a zxara or something.

Its time Suspension became permaban again, hes becoming tiresome

This is a fantastic thread :D. Yantorsen is an idiot, he is going to end up with a car that will break down every five miles, drive horribly, be very impracticable and will kill him when he crashes it.

Have fun.

isnt this guy joshua or something? He added me to msn begging me to vote "yes" in his poll. I did, but i had never run into any of his posts untill this one.

if the mods bother to read the whole thread then they'll understand that it was well overdue. But since none of them like me your probably right.

If your liked or not does not matter, nor if anything is overdue or not.

Your breaking the forum rules.

Given what you've posted, I'm more than a little sad to see you merely suspended.

Don't we have a night watchman in this Motors forum Dons?

come back then and ask these questions
at the moment your just in a dream world mate

next week you will have changed your mind again

In a month he's gone from:

I think he's successfully and unwittingly compiled a list of awful first cars. I am very disappointed to see he's only been given a suspension given his track record.

Don't worry, he's got until September to buy a car, so expect a few choice threads! ;) :p

Also, I have a feeling this thread title has been edited? :D

Yanto, get a 1983 Pug 205 - you can get classic car insurance for these (I think!) :p

The thread title is the original! The problem is, he hasn't even started lessons yet and from my experience of him, he sounds too stubborn to take advice from anyone who knows better so i doubt he'll be on the road anytime.

I can just see him sat there and not doing anything the driving instructor says as he doesnt want to take advice, and wants to do things how he wants.

Having a huge pile of broken pig iron on your driveway will not make you happy however much you think it will. Not unless you a proper oily classic car enthusiast which it is utterly obvious from your posts that you are not.

^ this isnt even true.. i consider myself a classic car enthusiast, my first car was a mini which i rebuilt myself.. i have pretty extensive mechanical knowlege and am known to get stuck in to jobs taht others would send to a mechanic.

However, after driving the mini for approximately 10 months on my 40 mile each way commute to work, having to fix it on an almost bi-weekly basis, and suffering all the problems and uncomfortable traits that come with a classic car, i became fed up of having to drive it to work.

That said, i loved it, i want it back, but i am under no illusion that it's a monumentally stupid idea to run a classic car as your daily driver on a strict budget.. if you've got the money to throw at it, then by all means, but you obviously do not.

As for your economy arguments.. my mini DRANK fuel, and was a 998cc engine.

My suggestions to you:

1) 1.25 Ford fiesta
2) 1.2 Renault clio
3) NOT a 1.25 Fiat punto, they are crap.. (except the one i own, which you can have for a spiffing £1500)

My apologies if you've already come out of your classic car fantasy world, i could only be bothered to read the first 2 pages of the thread :)

I ran a ~30 year old Triumph for 3 years (my first car) as a daily, whatever the weather and it was impeccable and only stopped once, which I fixed by the roadside.

It's just buying the right car (in respects to condition and the type of car itself, depending on what it's for) which has been properly looked after, that's all - and knowing how to treat it.

If you have good technical knowledge, a few tools, a good mechanical brain and a whole load of patience then a classic can be a rewarding experience but for somebody who has no idea about cars, driving in general and no mechanical know-how (ie Yantorsen) a classic is not going to be ideal.

Well I didn't have any of those when I started out....and you soon learn pretty quickly if need be. When it ain't complex, it ain't hard to pick up or understand.

About the only thing required is some degree of mechanical sympathy - i.e. not ragging it from cold, not pushing it past its limits and expecting it to withstand - and these are things that you should really apply to any car.

They have other bonuses too, like tax exemption in some instances, cheap parts, many garages know them inside and out and can do the work quickly and effectively, low insurance costs, excellent support and are also much, much more satisfying to own and drive in many instances.

I sold my 1500 FWD to my friend and he uses it daily.......he has none of the things you state and he loves it - and it's serving him well, again in all seasons :) Plus he's learning plenty of stuff he otherwise wouldn't have and that again is a bonus. Making him a much better motorist to boot!

Pretty little thing!

There's no real fixed answer for any of this discussion - but I just thought I'd put my 0.2c in here :)

Something was wrong with it then; the A series tends fo be generally quite good on fuel. The 1.3 SPI I've got certainly is.

Although I very rarely post in this forum, I really do enjoy reading it. I'm distinctinctly worried the OP will bring his infamous GD brand of nonsensical claptrap to Motors :(

I hope not.

Who says I have no idea about cars? I know loads about cars thank you very much, and I am pretty technically minded.

Its a car mate, its supposed to drive nice. If i want art i'll buy art. If i want to get to work in one piece i'll buy a car that i like driving.

Well this is for me remember, I don't want to go to work in it. I want something I can admire and enjoy. You won't get any piece of art that looks as good as a Spitfire for under £2000 in my opinion. Plus you'd still need to get a car then.
