Bus Wars - The Christians Fight Back

Im not sure they are allowed to state that like that.

Mind you, as they are not advertising a product, or selling anything, they might be able to get away with it?

So was the atheist advert.:)

No it wasn't. The ASA (or Trading Standards, can't remember which one) deemed it perfectly fine as they'd included the word "Probably" which made it an opinion and not a statement of fact like this one is.

Don't you have to back up claims made to advertise something.

I may become Christian, then sue them when they don't deliver the evidence.

With any luck they may ban any and all religious (for and against) avertising if they get tired of this tit-for-tat.

I'd totally wreck the young lass in the atheist bus picture.

In other news, the Christian picture looks a lot like a photoshop to me, i can tell by the pixels.

Two groups of people preaching their respective faiths... what more can be said, both are as bad as each other.

It's ironic that one of the biggest complaints atheists make about the religious is them forcing their religion down other people's throats.

I would have to disagree... Atheists clearly stated in their own advert the word probably. Atheists are not imposing a faith on any one, they are merely stating as of yet there is no proof (for or against) so there is no point in worrying about it who is right or wrong. Dont get hung up on some thing which may / may not exist.

The christians on the other had outrightly stated that there is a God, with no proof what so ever.... Now i agree they would be as bad as each other if they said there definately is no god, but this is not the case.

Totally agree, especially when the best argument 99% of atheists come out with against religion is shouting over the top of you that religion is the cause of all wars and is <insert random expletive>. I'm not claiming to be a great debater on the subject though.

I'm a (relapsed) Christian. I was closely involved in church when I was younger and met a few people who were a bit much for me, but none of them come close to how much atheists have rammed things down my throat

It's all relative to what side of the fence you decide to sit. The amount of religious people who've stopped me in the street, knocked on my door and preached to me far out-number atheists. In fact, not one atheist has done so. Atheism -- at least in my experience -- tends to crop up much more subtly. And here is the point I made about relativity; you feel it's being rammed down your throat because you're far more sensitive to it. I bet you wouldn't bat any eyelid when walking by a church or any avertisments for theism.

The campaign organiser states on her website she would have used 'almost certainly' but it didn't seem as catchy.

I also have to admire the way she manages to get the definition of atheism wrong despite linking to wikipedia on atheism...

It seems she's fallen into the common trap of believing one thing and trying to claim it's something else through semantics to make it seem more rational.

The message is similar, the tone may be different, but the message is essentially the same. One side is just being more honest about the nature of their faith than the other.

I find it amusing that there's criticism of the lack of the word "probably" given that for atheists to use "probably" in their slogan implied a measure of uncertainty, which doesn't really jive with atheism. At least the Christians are actually presenting what they believe, rather than some watered down message.

I'm also not sure that their claim can be deemed to be false advertising, as they're not asking for money, and a claim like that should surely be taken in context and understood to be a statement of faith.

Don't confuse secular humanism with atheism. It's a little difficult when Dawkins is their front-man though, granted.

Also a bit difficult when they themselves are calling it the Atheist Bus, and that's the name of their website.
