Bus Wars - The Christians Fight Back

Also a bit difficult when they themselves are calling it the Atheist Bus, and that's the name of their website.

And that their website focuses on atheism, with the only mention of humanism being in regard to the BHA administering the funding for the adverts...

You reckon we could get over 150 people to complain about them? Lets start rallying people here on OCUK, if we can out do them for complaints we will win and get on the news :D

If there are more complaints about the christians than there were about the atheists, does that show the average atheist is more intolerant than the average christian, given the massive difference in numbers within the UK?

That's a bit of a tenious stretch if we're being honest. Just because hypothetically, more atheists complain; it has no bearing on their tolerance for other point of views. There's a large number of reasons why anyone could complain.

Oh, I agree entirely, it was just an amusing thought that came into my head :)

Two groups of people preaching their respective faiths... what more can be said, both are as bad as each other.

It's ironic that one of the biggest complaints atheists make about the religious is them forcing their religion down other people's throats.

I think it's ironic that the single biggest complaint that religious moderates make about atheists is them forcing their religion down other people's throats.

I admire your arguments, but can I ask why you come down so heavily on the side of the religious? Is it because you think that atheists are more vocal/militant/dominant?

With a little prompting most atheists would agree with you on every point. What reason have they for holding on to full atheism, other than an entrenched worldview? They have no afterlife or perfection to lose.

Well, it looks like a counter message has been put out by Christian groups to the "there probably is no god" bus advert

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...-God-Christians-hit-atheists-bus-adverts.html

It rubs me the wrong way, even as a believer myself, that they claim "There definitely is a god" when they have no way of proving it, the Atheist movement had the decency to include the words probably.

"There probably is a god" doesn't have the same ring to it! :D

I think religion is fine, it may be a cult and used to stop believers being bad people. Give people happiness, thinking their loved ones are in heaven.
And as far as religions go christianity aint bad, doesn't involve any inhumane acts, or money making schemes.

But theres probably no god, if you wanna believe, great, chill out, and stop trying to brainwash me.

I'm making a complaint :D
Silly religious people! Making their claims with no realy evidence to back it up!

I don't generally come down heavily on the side of the religious, it's just generally the religious contingent don't give as scope for evaluation of their views. Most religious people on here won't try and convert you, claim their view is somehow better than everyone elses etc. Many of the atheists here and will do both of those, and be insulting to anyone who doesn't share their views.

When we've had christians etc behaving in the same way, I've called them on it and given them the same critical analysis of their viewpoint, but most theists (on here) accept their beliefs to be just that, most atheists (on here and in the media) want to claim it's something more than just their belief, despite the fact that critical analysis doesn't support such a stance.

That's a question I wonder about myself, and why it seems so important to some to convert everyone else to their way of thinking.
