Hi Guys,

A machine I built for a friend has started doing some strange stuff recently. When you turn the machine on it shows grey squares all over initial POST screen. Then it will continue to show similar corruption on the windows vista loading screen and then BSOD with an ATIKMDAG.sys error.

I managed to get it into safe mode and on the next reboot the corruption went away. We booted into vista and updated graphics drivers, rebooted several times with no issue.. Play a little bit of WoW and the game briefly froze with a similar pattern of black squares this time. But then continued to run fine... After quitting the game 1/2 hour later a box popped up saying windows had recovered the graphics driver from a serious error.

Now my friend says his computer isn't working again. It does appear to be pointing in the direction of the 2900 on its way out? Has anyone seen these types of issues before?

It's going back quite a long time now, but mine did the same (corruption on post, died when Windows tried to kick in the drivers). RMA'd it, and it was replaced with a 3xxx series card (can't remember now what it was) as the 2900xt had been discontinued. That lasted about 6 months before dying (cooling in my case was not a problem before someone asks).

Have since had a 8800GTS, and am now running a 280GTX. Not had a problem with either.
