i'm going to buy another 2 x 1TB today and was wondering if I should buy another two F1's or go for 2 x WD green. What do you think? If I went with WD it would be a little easier to tell which drive is which wouldn't it?

Based on reviews I would go with Western Digital. Plus I have seen some negative reviews about the Samsung making high pitched noises and breaking rather quickly. But then again you do have warranty.

Whichever one you do go for make sure it has 32M cache.

I went for the WD greens

Due to the fact it would make it easier to tell which drive is which. Having 4 F1's would make it a bit of a guessing game.

DHL have still to show up though :(

Sitting here in my pants, I suppose i'd better get dressed before he comes to the door lol :)

I'm not really caring about the performace difference really, It's only for storage and the O/S. At the moment i'm still using my WD Caviar 80Gig IDE drive for the O/S, After today I will be IDE free, and hopefully jitter free as the Jmicron controller on my motherboard sucks ass.

Theres a thread about free v10 acronis in the windows section, don't know if the offer is still going though, or weather it works with Vista if thats what your using.

Think I'm going to get a WD Green 1tb hdd, just need to decide on a hdd enclosure.

You got the drive delivered yet?

I'm still using XP

Damn! driver couldn't find my flat (address inadequate)
Just got off the phone with DHL (after numerous options) and the package will be redelivered tomorrow, If i'm not in it will be left in the shop below me.

Let us know how you get on with the WD, I have a WD My Book 1TB and it is brilliant..

I must have dropped it 3 times and it still works a charm, very solid build quality!
Also got a F1 1TB and that's pretty quick, but its time to get another and I'm swithering!

Just got them. First impression of the drive is that it is quite heavy, I can't remember if the F1 was as heavy but i'll find out when I install them.

I'm too busy/tired to install them them today so i'll probably do it on either Sunday or Tuesday(day off)

32MB version.

Do I need to set any of the 3 jumper options on the WD green?

what is 1.5GB PHY mode?

edit

it's probably an option to put it in SATA 1 mode huh?

For future reference, if you right-click on the drive in explorer, choose properties/hardware tab, you will see under Device Properties "Location: n"
where (n) is the port number the drive is attached to. Makes it easy to locate any particular drive. [you motherboard manual will list the postion of the ports so you can follow the cable from the port to the drive].

That's for single drives, for RAID arrays you'll find similar info in the RAID Utility (for example, in the Marvel Raid Utility position is indicated by "Parent Device Port ID").
