hey guys,

i want to start my own little video sharing networks like youtube and ive been browsing a lot on the net lately trying to figure on how i cud start it?

i've seen only a few handfuls of websites that offers the code for u to build your own video site and some of them charges from $200 - $300 and one webste offers free codes.

These are the best two i have found so far

Sharemixers offers script for u for $300 or something like that http://www.sharemixer.com/

and the other is

PHPmotion and they offer their own script for free http://www.phpmotion.com/

What i want to know is what are the difference of websites that charges you when you can get it for free on the other? Has anybody in here have their own video site?

To be honest i rather get the ones for free and see how it goes from there? ;)

Regards
Den

All I want to say is if you want to make this a successful website you are going to need loads of cash for the bandwidth.

I'm not even sure how Youtube etc. make any money at all but they seem to.

However videos are large files for the most part and your bandwidth costs will be high.

YouTube makes a very large amount of money from subscription accounts so people can upload longer videos etc. They also have a lot of advertisements.

ah i didn't know that so they charge per upload.... good idea.

never noticed adverts actually never bought anything advertised via google ads which are adblocked by firefox for me

1) You want to post this in HGP

2) To host a video site will take masses of storage space, bandwidth and a very streamlined site which scales very well. A basic hosting package, like the ones you've mentioned, won't cover this. You'd be looking at spending 4 figures minimum, most likely 5.

The market for video storage websites is pretty much tapped out, so unless you're bringing something completely unheard of and amazing to the market there's very little chance of success.

If you're doing this in a vain attempt to make some quick cash, I wouldn't even bother.

what? dvdbunny? what are u talking about? Just because ive only just signed up on here and asked a question?

I am not doing this just to make a quick cash! why would i go all the trouble trying to start up my own video site that takes a lot of time and investment to get one up running? im not an idiot! Im trying to make a business to set up myself when i graduate after i finished my degree a uni.
Unlike some others I do have a plan with my life than spending time on forums offending people. Shame on you for accusing me for something like that!

Does YouTube make their money mainly on adverts on their website? Or do you think it is mainly on the subscriptions?

Forget all the questions that i asked! i'm doing a lot of research and get loads of opinions from others on how i can run my own website? if you cant give me anything related to what i asked then why bother replying to my thread? Anyway I don't have time to argue so anything u reply will be ignored unless its related to the topic I had started.
