!!!!!angst

Took delivery of a new p5qe mobo and guess what, same bloody issues with my ram as the maximus (thanks asus btw for royally boning me out of my rma by claiming "damage" was the cause of a widely spread problem with the board).

Got it installed plonked 1 stick of ram in, everything powers up but no display, scratch my head for a bit then get a lend of a stick of ram, system boots fine.

I check on their sites and the latest bios states that it improves ram compatabilty, so i flash the new bios... up the vram voltage to 2.10 (as it states on the ram)take out the generic ram and put in a stick of mine..same thing happens. Eventually after much faffing about i get all 4 sticks recognised but it seems to be a temporary thing, if i turn the system of for a while and back on im back to square one having to get a different dimm installed to get my ram recognised. Tried upping the nb voltage to 1.25 and still the same issue.

I really don't get why this happens, im using 4x1 gig sticks but regardless if its 1 or 4 sticks its the same exact issue. And why exactly would booting with more generic ram all of a sudden make the motherboard recognise my ram only to have it "forget" my ram several hours later? Is this just more asus bs with poor memory support?

This is my ram:

Im considering trying this ram

But to be perfectly honest im fuming i might have to outlay yet MORE money because this board seems to be semi retarded when it comes to recognising ram.

Anyone else had issues of this sort?

Not the same board but I have a Maximus Formula which I'm pretty sure is the same chipset etc but with some extra cooling and features.

I ran that second Corsair kit you're looking at for about 3 months and then it died. I believe that it was the RAM's fault but I got another set which failed. The 3rd set worked fine and has been working now for the last year.

Hope that helps.

hmmz....are you sure the memory isn't faulty?

I had 4 sticks of that exact ram and never had any probs with my P5Q Deluxe...even did a bit past 1200mhz!

Im gonna run a test on it tonight but what are the odds of all 4 sticks being faulty, very unlikely imo. I just dont get the routine it does of acting like its not there, then install generic stick up voltage boot shut down, reinstall ocz ram and it works.

Oh dear! :(

That's a big clue right there! :o

I doubt it

Ahhhh trouble-shooting is the pits!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm having a good time with ASUS and OCZ, hopefully we can get you sorted out as you seem your having a rough time, try and calm down and you will probably need a sharp mind to extract yourself from the hell hole that is your world right now! ;)

Methodical, patient calm trouble-shooting will see you through, time for a cup of tea and a kit kat me thinks! :)

I really don't get why this happens
Hey Gerard,

obviously your a bit mangled at the moment from getting beaten up by your hardware, it happens to us all man so I feel for you! :(

Anyways computer hardware can be a bugger when things don't work as expected however there is a right and a wrong way to go about getting things resolved!

I suspect that your having problems due to a *clash* of sorts between your memory and your motherboard.

You may need to manually adjust some timings or perhaps the FSB strap, there are lots of things like this you can try. In an ideal world you shouldn't have to but sometimes things like Memory SPD settings can be crudely interpreted by a particular motherboard and you end up in a world of pain.

This problem may be nothing to do with either your mobo or the RAM? It's hard to say whats happening from your posts but if your just about to freak out then perhaps try some of the OCZ Platinum PC2-8500 as that seems to work great in the ASUS P5Q-Series.

What troubleshooting can be done though? ive tried all available official bios's, last time i done a memtest run overnight was november and the chances of all 4 sticks just happening to have become faulty in that time is amazingly tiny, ive tried combinations of the 4 sticks, ive tried each stick individually. Ive adjusted voltages to the specs ocz suggest and still no luck.

It would be weird if a modded bios fixed it though, providing better support than asus.

Top tip: Try a Gigabyte board ;) :p

Starting to wish i did, especially how things went with the maximus board. :(

"this tiny mark is the cause of the problem therefore all the thousands of people online with the same problem must have the same mark on their board, warranty void".:mad:

That's not really helping Mike! :D
Ever since my Asus P5B died on me I've gone over to the dark side... ;) Maybe this will come in use?

(sorry) :D

That's not on really, tho I've found some PSU manufacturers have done similar things...

Just take care if flashing a modded BIOS, just don't do it in Windows as that is also known to kill boards. Good luck! :)

Judging by the millions of motherboards ASUS sell I'm not suprised to see countless posts from many thousands of users who basically lack experience of how to trouble-shoot a problem! or at least try and keep cool and not break out into a rant! :(

I know how it feels though when the chips are down, it's just not a good scenario to be in so basically I am posting in this thread to try and help you steer a course to a good place! :)

You just need to calm down and pinpoint the problem, patience, method, skill, in that order!

If gurusan had that memory working great on a very similar mobo then thats a good sign, but you either got unlucky with your sticks, or have a bOrked mobo or simply are doing something wrong . . .

hmmz....are you sure the memory isn't faulty?

At the minute ive the 4 gigs installed after reading some settings on the ocz forums, be interesting to see if it boots tomorrow with no probs. Will update then.

Tried to power on this morning, everything spins up but as usual no display on the monitor, take out the ocz put in the stick of gskill and it boots....This is seriously getting annoying.

I doubt it, he is gonna sit there for another few days slowly winding himself up too the point where he picks the whole computer up and hurls it across the room!

"bOOt you son of a *****!!!!"

Cmon Gerard sort it out, time to take emergency action and snag yourself a nice 4GB(2x2G) kit, you can sell on your older RAM was the dust settles! :)

Have you thought about selling the ram and buying a different brand?

Thinking about it, but id feel guilty selling it on if indeed the ram does have some kind of issue. Reading the ocz forums it seems there are quite a few issues with asus boards, wether its ocz or asus that are to fault is hard to say.

Gonna wait to see what ocz say then maybe make a change soon.

I've got an ASUS striker II extreme, and I thought the board was causing HDD corruption, and generally messing up my OS. I found out that it was a single faulty RAM stick.

Have you got another board to test your ram in?

EDIT - i just LOVE the "ASUS repair kit mentioned above". To be fair though, my experience of ASUS hasn't been that great either, with my first Striker DOA, and the second with a highly immature BIOS. By now though I am loving it.
