A House Cat?

Get 2 , they will be fine

we had one house cat a while ago and occasionally she would try and get out

we now have 2 and they show no interest, we occasionally let them out on garden supervised

We have a Siamese cat. Smokey has lived upstairs in our house for two years and very rarely venturing downstairs. He loves it upstairs, we are lucky to have a very large house, so there is plenty of space for him. I would always own Siamese cats, very beautiful, loving and loyal creatures. We do have five jack russells, but they all know its his territory and never go upstairs, lol.

I have a Persian tabby called Smokey who lives in the house, he rarely ventures outside and if you plonk him down outside he runs back in, he looks quite out of place outside as well, he's happy enough :)

Got two cats here, both are allowed freely outside.

One of them is a hunter, but spends most of the day sleeping in the house (most of the night too). He only ever goes out for maybe an hour or two a day to hunt and catch something. Funnily he used to spend a lot more outside (in summer he used to be gone from morning till night), but that was a couple of years back (he's 5 now).

The other used to prefer the house, but now spends almost the whole day outside only comming in at night to sleep or for food during the day. But he doesn't hunt, and is infact afraid of mice (wierd I know).

So yer, go figure.

Our cat has always been put outside overnight. She rarely likes this but she knows the drill :p. That said, she wouldn't be happy indoors all the time I don't think. In summer we leave the big patio door open and she'll go outside of her own accord and roll around on the patio or hide in a bush all day :D

get 2 so they can entertain themselves

one day they will outsmart you and find a way out mind ! but they will come back as soon as the wind scares them

If you're going to get a 'house cat', and keep him/her indoors, then get at least two. I wouldn't let a cat out here, due to the risk of it either being killed, or stolen, but I couldn't isolate it from others of it's kind. I just think of what I would feel like if I was isolated from all other humans - it's rather cruel. Or at least it seems that way.

We have a Bengal female she is in at the moment as I dont want her to get pregnant by a ally cat (no offence) as I want some kittens from her. Its a tricky subject about letting them out I agree with the theory that cats must go out as they are natural hunters.
I will let the girl out once she has had kittens, but am gonna be worried all the time.
Heres the reason why, we did had two Bengal, my other one a handsome snow blue eyed seal point Bengal and he loved hunting and I always let him out. Alas one day got call from vets saying he had been killed by a car, he was only 14 mth old and it broke my heart. So pontential cat owners alway be prepared for it and the financial loss aswell especially for expensive purebreds like Bengals, burmese and siamese etc.

Get a rescue moggy from the Cate protection league - we got 1 of our 2 from there, they know the cats a bit and you're more likely to find a cat that prefers being indoors.

We had a house right near a busy 'A' road for 6 months, it drove poor Molly nuts... she just wanted to be out and about, she got out a few times and just went a-wandering over rooftops :p

Had to open tins of tuna to persuade her to come back in!

We have a ragdoll (seal colourpoint) that's never been outside apart from trips to the vet and the odd wander onto the balcony. Lots of people live in flats and have a house cat, the cat will be fine. :)

Our little Mac is an indoor cat - it was never the intention but he managed to get a blockage in his stomach followed by a series of bladder problems which stopped him going outside for about 10 months. Since then hes just not interested in going out.

Hes very happy being inside but we have a huge cat tree for him and play with him loads - at least 30 min a day, but usually longer (can't recomend "Da-Bird" enough as a feather toy - sends him and all the friends' cats I've recommended it too nuts)

Hes alone most of the day as we both work but has cat TV to watch (an aquarium) and spends 90% of the time asleep when i work at home!

Hes fast asleep in that photo :)

Our two go out on a morning between 8 and 13:00 when they come in for food and then sleep mainly for the rest of the day, That said in the winter Ruby nips out in the morning for a wazz and then comes back in and doesn't really bother with the outside, Murray loves it out there though and would be out longer if he could keep himself awake long enough :o

Neither of them go out over night due to the amount of urban foxes we get round and whilst fox v cat is rare we don't want to risk it.

Ragdolls are too stupid to be allowed outside anyway ;).

I guess it depends on the breed, but I have two indoor cats who I think would hate being outside. My cats like to be around people, so regardless of if they're in my flat or have a big house to explore, they spend most of their time in the living room.
