My girlfriend has just taken her 07 reg aygo to a toyota garage this morning for its 2 year full service at a toyota main dealer.

The cost was £190 for the service which she knew about.

But they have just phoned her and told her that the brakes need replacing and that it needs a new tyre.

Im not sure if its disks+ pads and shoes +drums (front and back) they are saying need doing or if its just the front but they ware saying the total costs going to be over £650 including the service and tyre.

So about £400 to do the brakes.

Surely it doesnt need new disks or pads having only covered 15k miles. Same for the tyre.

I have a C2 VTS which has covered similar milage and i have loads of wear in my disks + pads left and tyres.

Ive told her to tell them not to do the brakes or the tyre and just do the service so i can look for myself.

I suspect they maybe doing the "shes a woman" lets tell her all this needs doing thing.

Chris.

Yeah just do the service and then inspect it yourself. £400 sounds like the whole lot and i very much doubt that needs doing unless she drives with one foot on the brakes all the time.

15k miles on a lightweight Toyota Aygo town car... what is her driving style? Does she drive to conserve fuel or is she constantly using the brakes when driving too close to cars in front?

£400 is a lot for some Aygo brakes. Doesn't sound right TBH.

Presumably for that price they are referring to new discs/drums and pads at all corners.

I would seek further details from the dealer.

They tried to tell me the same when my Ibiza went in for its 20,000 mile service! Needless to say I told them not to bother.

£400? A full set of uprated discs and pads all round for my car cost £300

Tell them not to bother.

Shes not constantly on the brakes/drive up peoples backsides.

So ive got the job sheet from the garage.

The break down goes as follows:

305.48 Front disks and pads. (265.00 for 2 disks + 40.48 for set of pads)
25.00 for brake fluid
25.00 for clutch fluid
123.74 for two new tyres.
190.00 for service.

£668.48

My initial reaction was WTF.

So far weve knocked off the cost of the disks because they are going to change them for free under warranty (didnt think they covered disk/pads/exhausts etc )

So just gotta pay 40.48 for the pads.

Ive told her to tell them to go spin trying to charge 25 for brake fluid and 25 for clutch fluid, 50 quid something that probably costs them in reality what, less than 10% of that?.

I thought all fluid e.g oil etc were included in the service cost usually anyway?

And ive looked online and the exact same tyres can be had for 51 quid each from fitted black circles, not looked anywhere else yet.

Chris.

i question why you need £25 worth of brake fluid... they shouldnt have to remove ANY fluid to change disks and pads.. at worst it will need a top up.

their fluid prices are extortionate too.. local motor factors will do you 5 litres of either for a tenner...

i would just have them do the service, disks (as they are paying for them) and pads, would ask why you need £50 of brake and clutch fluid

the cost of the pads is excessive, but they should be replaced along with the disks really... and they probably wont let you buy your own and ahve them fit them.

They appear to be treating the thing as though it is a sports or racing car. It isn't :D It's just a Toyota Aygo.

A fluid change is a bit OTT. This only really needs to be done if the pedal feels spongey. Certainly doesn't need to be done just because they are changing the discs and pads.

I can't believe the discs are shot at 15k miles. That is just outrageous.

The service cost of £190 should include the engine oil.

£265 for two Aygo discs is outrageous.

This entire dealership appears to be outrageous :D

Yeah ive told her to tell them to do the service, disks (like as you say they are paying) and pads(because also i very much doubt they would fit any we supplied and i dont want them to be funny about doing the disks if we wouldnt pay for the pads)

Id have thought it fairly normal to change brake fluid once every 2 years.....

Its fairly expensive for what it is, but i assume that includes the labour of doing it too.

Shouldnt the service cost at £190 also cover the cost of any other fluids and not just oil, such as the clutch and brake fluid, as you say it should only need a top up and not a change so you would think it would be included for the minute price its going to cost them.

With regards to the disks and pads the sheet says, front disks worn + lipped + pitted, advice new - front pads, 60% worn, advice new.

Yeah it includes labour do the prices :)

Someone on the aygo forum has just made this point, dont know why i didnt think of it.

"If they're replacing the discs under warranty they're admitting they're defective ( ie. not from wear and tear).

If that's the case then that's why the pads need replacing (as the discs are defective).

Mine's done just close to 30k and no mention of brakes when it was last serviced.

Stand your ground mate ! "

That is just typical main dealer RIPP OFF!

Half the time - They don't even change the brake fluid.

£265 for brake disks!!! Are they gold plated??? lol
