Which replacement for Internet Explorer?

If you don't want any of the add ons and just want a simple fast browser I'd get Chrome. But since I make use of a lot of add ons I use FireFox. I would use Opera since it has useful features but I don't like the interface.

all of them are a massive improvement over IE.

I disagree. If speed doesn't matter too much and you don't need add ons then I'd use IE. Simply because if your using Vista it looks a thousand times better than any other browser.

Apologies if this is wrong, but have you tried some other themes? I don't like the default 9.5 onwards themes so I've got the classic old Opera theme. :)

I have tried some of the ones that come with it. The main problem with it for me though is that it doesn't integrate with glass in vista, and you cannot hide the menu bar, thus wasting valuable real estate. I seem to remember you use the classic windows theme though so the former probably isn't an issue.

The menu bar? File/Edit/View?

Download this page and run it from disk to test CSS rendering: http://www.howtocreate.co.uk/csstest.html

There's another JavaScript test here.

For reference I just got 765 ms with Fx 3.0.6. With Konqueror 4.1.4 I got 1101 ms.
Will do. :) Running the SunSpider in Opera 9.63, Firefox 3.0.6, Firefox 3.1 B2 and Chrome 1.0.154.48 then copying the results into Excel for a browser-by-browser comparison.

Would you like a look at the spreadsheet when its done?

What version of Office have ye? 2007 or earlier? Also doing IE just for a laugh. :p?
None, I'm using OO.o on Linux. It should be able to handle anything you can throw at it except maybe a bunch of VBScript. Sure, you can add me. Let me go turn it on. :p

Yantorsen, which version of IE was that? I wonder why your Fx is so much faster than mine. In turn, I wonder why both of ours is so much faster than the reference given on the site. Might be down to hardware. This machine is rather ancient; 1.3 GHz Pentium Mobile.

Well I've run the SunSpider test on 5 browsers and the results are:

Code:
1st - Chrome 1.0.154.48: 1069.0ms +/- 18.4%
2nd - Firefox 3.1 Beta 2: 1405.6ms +/- 4.6%
3rd - Firefox 3.0.6: 3304.2ms +/- 1.6%
4th - Opera 9.63: 3940.8ms +/- 2.6%
5th - Internet Explorer 7: 20036.6ms +/- 1.9%
So Chrome leads the way as I thought it might having had a quick glance in the Chrome thread just now. FF 3.1 Beta 2 isn't far behind considering it is a beta however Opera 9.63 being slower than 3.0.6 just shows that although 9.63 is roughly same age as FF 3.0.6 the Javascript engine for Opera 9.63 is quite old. And IE7 coming in last, just where we expect it to. :D
Yeah, last time I downloaded opera I could not find a way to hide it.

That or full screen mode. ;)

Not sure how hot OO is at handling the new Excel 2007 xlsx so I'll save it in an older version and add you on MSN now. :)

It worked a charm. Mind if I post the results here for others to see?
Course you can. :) Was going to suggest you do that on MSN. Rather you than me figure out how to present the results. Unless you want to upload the spreadsheet somewhere?

Link doesn't seem to work. It still won't look good with Vista glass though, so until it does I won't be using Opera.
Try it again. Didn't load at first but did second time round. This is with Opera btw. ;)

I'd disagree - but anyway, who cares? You use a browser to look at web pages, not the program's own menus. I accept that speed might not be vital, but are you really going to use a browser that processes web content 15 times slower than Firefox and 20 times slower than Chrome (according to MarcLister's results) just because it looks a bit nicer? It's not like Chrome or Firefox are pig ugly!

I've used Opera for years and I won't use anything else.

If you use Chrome you might like to try Iron which is a Chrome modification that addresses the privacy concerns of the former.
