Where to get oil?

Halfords do a 5W-30 with 504 00/507 00

Edit, it actually only says 'meets requirement of' therefore it is pretty safe to say that the oil is not VW approved.

not desperate, (its just above the low mark) just wanted a good price, having only paid 28 quid to get the stuff changed seam silly to spend 14 quid on just a litre.

It needs to be done soonish ( i.e. this week), £9 from mirrisions would have been great if i could get it.

hope so  or then i might have just gone back to national and got it changed again.

I looked in bp on the way home from work £18.99 for one littre!

What? Of course its 'branded', he asked specifically for Castrol Edge 0w30 so unlike everyone else in this thread I've given him advice on where to get what he asked for not some other make instead.

Calm down gorgeous. Just asking!

Never seen any Halfords Own 504 Aproved oil when i've searched through the store, perhaps i haven't looked hard enough, is 504 approval also in 5w40spec?

Cost wise its only once every 10k so £20 difference or whatever it works out doesn't really matter in the slightest, might aswell chuck in the "proper" Stuff.

The Halfords oil is made by another company - a guy over on the Briskoda forums did say, but I cannot for the life of me remember who he said.
However the Halfords own brand stuff is recognised to be very good but a lot cheaper than some of the options out there.

Oh and "Meets the requirements" means that it is VW/Audi approved.

No it doesn't, it means they've made the oil to meet the requirements, not that VW have approved it.

Exactly, I know it's not on the VW approved list.

I wonder why it is 'recognised to be good' ?

Presumably the same reason that Falken 452's are recognised to be good. Somebody on a forum finds something cheap, buys it, cannot personally tell the difference between it and the premium alternative, declares it to be amazing rather than simply cheap, everyone else follows, before you know it Halfords own brand is the best oil in the world ever.

Owners club forums. Oh yea.

can anyone remember what owners club forum did a load of oil analysis on various oils to see which were better? i think that showed halfords "motorsport" oil as being pretty terrible

Another comedy one.

Joe bloggs analysing two different oils under complete different conditions and then trying to make some conclusive claim :D bobistheoilguy.com is a great read for that.

Some people can't substantiate between a product being better than the rest and not being able to tell the difference between a premium product and a value one. My co-workers seem to fall into this bracket, they can't understand why I paid £120 for a pair of continentals when they can buy £25 tyres which are "just as good".

i know they do not do them in 195/50/15 (because i wanted some) and i know the wheels in your pic are 14"

so are yours sport contact?

Oh sorry there Fox.
Did I dare post something you disagreed with?

The oil the original poster asked about is also not on the "approved list" - however does still "Meet the Requirements".

It's Comma who make oil for Halfords BTW.

Mine are 185/55/14 and yes they are Sport Contacts, however I was bending the truth slightly, the previous owner of the car paid £60, not me :p However they will be replaced with equivalent tyres and I have not problem with spending £60+ for good quality tyres.
