VW Bluesport - Upmarket MX-5?

I was expecting it to be an ugly Golf in a topless frock but thats actually pretty nice. If it does make it to production I expect they will probably offer a petrol model aswell.
 
When will you lot realise VW don't care about petrol heads they care about the people who buy their cars. Most of whom don't know much about cars and don't have a problem with diesel engines.
 
looks nice, but diesel engine = epic fail. Also can't see how an MR layout can be compared with he FR MX5.

It does look very nice, got a kinda small R8 look with the new shap A4 rear lights or something along those lines.

Technically i can't see it being as fun to drive as the Mazda since VW love giving cars dead feeling steering, however its nice to see its RWD, strange choice if its mid engined though.
 
Surely the correct comparison would be against the MR2 (mk3), almost as though VW watched Toyota announce their planned closure on the MR2 and thought it would be an interesting niche to have a go at.
 
I really like the design, and the mid mounted engine would mean the extra weight of the diesel shouldn't effect the handling too badly.

A petrol 1.8T of this would be even better though IMO.

The name "Blue"sport suggests it's going to be an efficient car, and there is massive pressure on car companies to produce such a product. Fact is diesel cars can be high performance and efficient, petrol cars can not offer the best of both worlds so well.
