I'm going to see some 3 week old white Westies tonight.. My wife doesn't know yet.. Any tips or advice on what I should be looking at (keep it clean)and what price they normally go for.

Thanks

Always ask to see the litter (if possible) to rule out the runt.

If they have a genuine Pedigree / ask about background of parent dogs.

You really shouldn't be going there without knowing what to pay

We'll I've seen them ranging between £400 and £500. These ones being the top end of that range. There are 3 left and have all the paper work. I'm just a little worried about picking out an ill health one.

That's no way to talk about your missus Huddy.

I'm picking her up from Colchester Zoo on the way :p

Thread disappoints huddy your standards are slipping! ;)

Ask to see both the parents if possible, ask what they're feeding on and if they are house trained... (you can hope). I'm guessing your wife wants one then?

Am jealous I miss not having a dog.

Make sure the nose and eyes are clear and watch out for sneezing/sniffing a lot. If possible, look at the parents as well as the puppies. A good breeder should be interested in the home you will provide and should be willing to answer any questions you have about care etc.

I think westies are good with kids. My boyfriends gran has one, and it's fine with his 5 year old cousin.

We paid £450 for ours 8 years ago. Make sure you see the parents, pick a lively one, and enjoy the 7 or so years that they take to calm down even slightly :p

Have a look in the ears, make sure the eyes aren't runny, check they've had their jabs (and look at the certificate from the vet stating this). Try and watch them walking, and look for any weird movements, weakness in the back legs etc. Common sense really.

As has been said, westies are usually great with kids. Ours is about the friendliest thing out there :)

We also have a scottie, and they get along fine.
