Atari ST vs Amiga

for me best game on the ST was probably Dungeon Master and Carrier command...on the Amiga i liked the cinemaware titles and another world...the amiga had loads of amazing games at the time...The secret of monkey island....spoilt for choice back in those days when i used to smoke da weed hehe:)

Great Thread!

I had a Amiga and loved it at the time. I was a Commodore whore starting with a Plus/4, then a C64, then the Amiga.

It was my Grandfather that got me interested in computers, especially Commodores. He uses a laptop and a desktop Pc now at the ripe age of 94 :D

Xcopy. I remember when copying a disk with the Atari ST with 512kb you had to keep swapping the disks about 10times to copy. When we upgraded to 1024kb it was 10x quicker. Great memories.

A500 for me. F/A 18 Interceptor blew me away at the time, then came syndicate and cannon fodder, they don't make em like they used to.:D

Surprised no one has mentioned the Cinemaware games on the Amiga
Defender of the Crown, Sinbad, Rocket Ranger, It Came from the Desert
All pretty simple multi event games looking back but mindblowing at the time

keep swapping the disks about 10times

Reading this I suddenly remember that this (constant usage) was what 'broke' the copy of Desert Strike that I had (disk 1, iirc) The spring in the sheath broke but I didn't remove the sheath itself for fear of damaging the disk itself, and I think that it still works to this day (my brother has it). :o

Kings (and Space) Quest! Who remembers these! :D All utterly brilliant, and Simon the Sorceror, too. Afair, Kings Quest had this really random bit where the Batmobile drives up

Edit: yep, i remember correctly :D

Remembering this makes me a bit teary eyed because games just aren't made like this anymore. Yes, there are good games, very good games, but these classics, nothing will ever touch them. Like in one bit of one of the Kings Quests you throw a pie at a monster, it's just so random, and funny, yet it made perfect logical sense to do it so that you could get by it.

Had an Atari 1040 STE from Evesham Micros in 1990. Used to love the bloody thing. Best games, Carrier Command, Frontier, the original Championship Manager, Geoff Crammonds Grand Prix, F19 Stealth Fighter, Microsoft Golf, M1 Tank Platoon, Kick Off2 Final Whistle, and the one I lost me life to, Player Manager. Sold it in 1995 to buy my first PC, a 486 sx25 with 4mb RAM lol.

Bought meself an A500 with a box of games in a fit of nostalgia from that auction site last summer lol

Anyone remember Hunter by Activision?

3D Graphics, open world... It was like the amiga's version of Far Cry 2!

I had a A500 and A1200.

The A1200 came with 2MB RAM and a massif 60 MB Hard Drive. Just when it was on it's way out, I got a 8MB SIMM that fitted on the slot in the bottom. 10MB Ram in Workbench 3.1 was awesome. It's still at my parents house gathering dust.

That XCopy screenshot brought back so many memories.

Things I loved:
The music demos
"Jesus On E's"
"9 Fingers"
"Big Time Sensuality"

Fat Agnus, Paula and Denise, those cheeky ladies from my teenage years, o how I remember defending your honour in the school playground!! ;)

I had a 520STe when it was released, parents got me a massive games pack with it, used to love my Atari remember being really upset when i broke the disk drive and it was out of action for 2 weeks :(

Like the others have said backing up a game was so easy and i had hundreds of games in the end, awesome first computer its still in the loft in fully working order!

Oh Test Drive 1 & 2 along with Lotus Turbo Challenge 1 & 2 are some of my fav games ever!

I started with a 1040 STE, the family pack which came with educational software (that was never used!). Those games listed above have brought back some great memories. I also loved the game Hunter. It was a free roaming game, and I just used to enjoy using the hovercraft and tank :). I started saving up for a PC but ended up spending the money on an Amiga 1200 AGA :D.

Hunter was superb in the same way as the Mercenary games - see a vehicle and you can drive it! I recently played it and, unfortunately, it has not aged well.

It would be great to have a PC version of that though!

I was lucky enough because my parents bought a Amiga 600 so me and my sister could do our 'homework'. I remember my dad bringing back a massive disk caddy full of floppy disks with tonnes of games. Never did find out where he got them from. Some of my favourites were:

Jet Strike
Syndicate
The Chaos Engine
Captain Planet
North and South
Road Rash
4d Driving
Cannon Fodder
Striker
Lotus Esprit Challenge

I also remember my dad buying this space sim game for like £100 at the time, and it was the hardest game i've ever played. It actually took hours just to get the shuttle down to the launch pad lol.

ahh the memories. I'm gutted though because I just found out that my parents gave the Amiga 600 to a charity shop not long ago.

Yeah my first was an A600 - it was a cracking little machine. It came with Captain Planet, Lemmings, DPaint 3 and something else. I hammered Captain Planet, not because it was good, but because it was the only game I had.

Then I met a little piece of software called White Lightning and a friend who had quite a few games and the rest was history!
