I have just put together a new rig and realised that i cant boot up with the hard drives from my old rig. i have 3 hard drives, 2 of which have their own OS (vista and windows 7) i was wondering how do i make it boot up in my new rig?

You can re-install Vista/XP without formatting but as recommended better do clean install which would involve backing-up/cloning/copying old Windows & data.

Your old data isn't going anywhere, but you'll need to reinstall any apps. You can transfer emails, settings and documents from the old installation later, then re-format the drive.

Ok, i got one of the hard drives cleared and formatted but when i go into the windows vista ultimate installation (64bit) i get an error when expanding the files at around 43% (0xC00000005), before you say anything, i don't have any other DVD drives to use. So any more help out there?

Hmm. That appears to be a memory exception error, but seeing as it's occuring during install its tricky. First, I'd run a memory check to see if there's any issues there. Second I would unplug and disable anything in the PC not essential to boot (like sound cards, motherboard built-in sound, USB stuff). Once you have the OS installed you can put them back.

I managed to run a windows diagnostics test and it came back all clear. I'm just about to boot with just the main devices. Also I can't boot with one stick of RAM as it says in my motherboard manual.
