LOTRO Free Trial and anyone still play?

So control the aggro. I'm champ and theres places I seldom even use AoE for that reason.

A good kill is not just about causing all the damage you can as quick as possible, but about balancing everything so that you may down the boss a bit slower but no one takes too much aggro in the process and those taking aggro are covered by the healers.

Our leader constantly shouts stuff like manage aggro, nuke, clobber healer, AoE on X, and when we all comply things go well :)

I agree completely with what you are saying and of course aggro management is the responsibility of everyone and not just the main tank. However, given two equivalent fellowships, one with a guard as the tank and one with a champion, the fellowhsip with the champion will be able to manage aggro just as well and will get things done noticeably quicker than the one with a guard. This kind of makes gurads a little redundant, especially with the number of champions running around.

Well I'm not going to contradict that because I have not experienced it. My main is a champ and I personally wouldn't know how to tank as effectively as our guardians were doing last night in the rift. But again, that may be about my own lack of skill :)

We almost downed Thrang :(

in terms of holding onto agro a tank and champ are quiet well balanced at the moment.

however only a very very well kitted out champ will have any where near the survivability of a a guardian, remember unless they have controlled burn up then will have minimal parry evade which means they r gettting hit everytime, if the champ is getting hit hard all the time the healer must focus soly on this charcter, what happens if you get adds that hit the group hard? you then have a problem with the healing not covering the damage.

it is of course dependant on the situation, some boss's / mobs will be taken down fast enough that its not a problem but for big hard hitting bosses a tank is still a valuable comodity.

just to be nosy have you guys been running the rift for long? do u know the tactics for the bosses? a couple of months ago i wrote a walk thru for the rift for use by my kin which i could probably find out for you. i think the only fight that has changed is the balrog and that has changed minimally.

alternativly if you have any questions about the bosses i will try n give u some info as i used to raid lead for our kin most weeks.

hope this helps

I'm not that experienced myself, trialled the game back in April, then stopped playing for a bit and I think I rejoined before summer. Taken my main to lvl 53 since. Mostly soloing up to the 40s and then fellowing with my kin.

This is only my second time in the rift. I've been to Carn Dum twice and Urugarth no more than ten. Now I am levelling solo or in small groups in Eregion, and should be going into moria soon.

I have 3 low lvl alts (9, 9, and 16) mostly to have all the professions between my 4 characters. Should play them a little more when I get to 60 with my main.

That said, the leaders of my kin are experienced and started the game in beta. They brief all of us before each boss and know how to kill all of them. About half the raid were also new(ish) to the rift last night, and the leaders did say we did well taking into account the general inexperience.

My initial impression on the Rift was I prefered Uru, Goblin Town and CD, but after the last couple of nights I've changed my mind.

Do you have a link to that guide? Would be cool to show it to the guys in my kin see what they make of it. They would interpret it better than me.

i think when u first start doing raids you find it very different to the 6 man instances, the level of co-ordination needed is a whole new game compaired to CD-Uru.

but equally i also think when u know what your doing and your with friends that it can be some of the most fun to be had, the first time we sucessfully downed the balrog and the first time we downed thorog (end boss in helegrod) were amazing experiences.

also you should take heart from getting to thrang if a lot of your group were inexperienced. the difficulty lvl of thrang and the balrog are off the page compaired to the rest of the instance so their is no shame in dying at him while your learning the ropes.

this is the link to the rift guide i put together. i will point out that it was written pre moria upgrade and some of the hit poiints for bosses has changed, also some of the scripted event times in the balrog fight are different due to the change in his morale.

i've also noticed from having a quick read that some parts of it are less detailed than i would generally like, if i was writing it again it would be more details but it was originally designed as a desk aid for the other raid leaders in our kin who already had some knowledge of the instance so some areas are perhaps not written in as much detail as they could have been or perhaps warrent.

it should still be a useful overview for new players tho it will probably include nothing new for your kin leaders as im sure they have ran it a million times :)

Yeah i find it easier to tank with my champ than before moria. When i'm asked to tank i normaly go to glory stance for 5-6 attacks then switch to controlled burn. If i find it hard to keep agro there's always rising ire to transfere 15% of the thread generated by other member and the shout skill (forgot name). :)
As mentioned earlier champs best skill is cobller, this makes soooo many hard fights easier/soloable.

Thx for rift guide, will have a read tonight. Only been to rift once even tho my champ is lvl 60 for quite a while.

well i personally got the barter item for the radience helm which was pretty sweet.

we also had the barter item for the shoulders, a teal light and a teal medium armour peice and a whole bunch of settings and xp runes.

unfortunatly the 1st age item we received was a wardens club which at the moment no one can use sigh.

Nice one.

We never got to give thaurlach a proper go, too few people logged on before the instance reset so we had a couple of 'learning goes' for those who hadnt been there yet. Then we got busy getting all the fidelity deeds done (shadow disipation or whatever you call it). Then I went on holiday. This friday we should be rifting again.

if you have the rift iron coins (barter coins) i would strongly suggest getting some of the fellowship and solo shadow mitigation pots. they give u and ur fellow increased shadow mit for 10 minutes, use them when your onto the balrog fight helps when he roars, also anyone that has the rift armour set gloves can use the "on use" skill of the gloves to give further shadow mit chance.

Hope this helps

Anyone alive? Anyone still play this? The keyboard movement is unbelievably annoying but apart from that it's ok :D
