I've no doubt it does scare some children - that picture of the soldier with no legs and one arm makes me feel uncomfortable and I'm 32! However, is it good that children are now introduced to the world of disability now at a young age? or should the innocence of childhood be preserved? By that I mean pretending that horrible injuries/birth defects don't occur until they are older.

I don't think it scares children, more likely the parents are talking 'on behalf' of their kids.
She's a good presenter, I see her a lot cos she does In the night garden which I sky+ every day for my daughter. She's definitely not scared.

I think it's a good thing. If kids see (get used to) disability on TV like this, they will probably have a far easier time when they meet someone in real life with a disability.

Children should be exposed to how we are all different, be it disability, colour, nationality etc as early as possible, as well as be made to understand it, otherwise they will find it harder to accept later in life.

There aren't many quotes or a link to the forums in question. But this certainly doesn't suggest that any kids are scared, just an ignorant parent thinking that it 'may' scare them.
Poster Barry wrote: "Is it just me, or does anyone else think the new woman presenter on Cbeebies (Cerrie Burnell) may scare the kids because of her disability?

"I didn't want to let my children watch the filler bits on the bedtime hour last night because I know it would have played on my eldest daughter's mind and possibly caused sleep problems... and yes, this is a serious post."

I went to school with a guy with 1 arm and it didn't scare me. Making kids think the world is perfect is a false economy, it should all be part of the learning process.

I think it's just more of the 'it might scare' children rather than droves of children needing sleeping pills after watching Cbeebies.

wow shes really pretty , might have to start making my 4year old watch cbeebies :D
i think kids are more scared when they have the sign language people in the bottom corner franticly waving there arms about like they are trapped inside the TV and need help :p

i think its probably a case of a lazy journalist making a story out of reading some stupid forum comment somewhere, the article even says complaints on a forum lol

those parents should be ashamed of themselves...how do u think it would make the presenter feel ? as if being an amputee isnt bad enough.

My little boy watches this girl on CBeebies every day and has never once mentioned the fact that she is an amputee (or has a limb deficiency)

The wife mentioned it the first time we saw her but it has been forgotten now.

Children are far more accepting of differences in people than adults are, so i call foul play on this matter and say its the kids parents at fault.

My little boy is 3 years old if that matters.
